Rowan helps you to plan your shopping, discover lower-impact alternatives, make your favorite recipes more sustainable, and tell which products are actually environmentally-friendly. Shop in your local store, or online with Instacart, and track your progress over time. Lists When you're planning your weekly groceries: - Create a shopping list and add your items (just you, or with a partner). - Rowan analyzes the list and gives you a sustainability report with an Eco Score and estimated CO₂. - Tap on any item to get product-specific impacts and actions. - Make key sustainable swaps to see your impact drop. Guides When you need more guidance on a specific product: - Enter the product into Guides, or select "Generate guide" under a list item. - Rowan generates a localized sustainable purchasing guide with typical CO₂, Eco Score, impacts, actions, and certifications to look for. - Your guide also includes brands with reported sustainability concerns, and brands with sustainable options. - All brand-related information comes with sources, so you can dig deeper and ensure you're making the right choice. Recipes When you want to make your favourite recipes more sustainable: - Import any recipe from a URL, or a photo of a cookbook, screenshot, or handwritten note. - Rowan analyzes it and gives you an Eco Score, estimated CO₂, and key impact ingredients. - Choose a "Better" or "Best" alternative with suggested sustainable swaps, or stick with the original. - Add the ingredients straight to a shopping list, then cook step-by-step in Cook Mode. Shop with Instacart When you want to shop online (US & Canada only): - Create and analyze your list as normal in Rowan to make swaps and reduce your impact. - Tap the "Shop with Instacart" button and your list items will be matched to real products available for purchase and delivery. - Make any further changes you like before adding products to your cart and ordering on Instacart. - We earn a small affiliate fee every time you click through from Rowan to Instacart and complete an order. You pay the same. Products: When you want to check a specific product before you buy: - Scan any barcode (or search by name) to instantly see its Eco Score (A–F) and estimated CO₂. - Rowan breaks down the impacts behind the score — ingredients, packaging, sourcing, and manufacturing. - See lower-impact alternatives so you can swap on the spot, right there in the aisle. - Everything you scan is saved, so you can revisit past products and track what you choose. Progress When you want to track your environmental progress: - Check off items as purchased in your shopping lists. - You'll see your recent sustainable swaps and the difference they made. Rowan will tell you how much CO₂ you've avoided, your average Eco Score, and your total CO₂ footprint. - Look at just your own progress, or the total progress of your household (based on shared lists).
