Needs bug fixes to be worth the price

Judging by the previous reviews you would expect the relay bugs to be fixed by now. But it's not. Still skips from 1st runner to 4th runner and makes it impossible to get relay splits. Tons of features But needs some updating. Could be a great app in a shallow market for this type of app

Good App

We use it for high school cross country.
Overall it is very helpful for timing several people at one time, and having it in a format that will let you email the results to yourself once you get back to wifi is nice. I'm still trying to figure out how to (or even if it will let me) put runners in the order that I anticipate them finishing and/or how to see a larger group of runners without scrolling as they are about to finish. That would make it even better. It just gets crazy when we have 4 or 5 of our runner crossing within about 5 seconds of each other and trying to hurry and scroll up and down to find them by alpha order.
overall thumbs up...pros outweighed the cons in our case...was worth the money

Coach L

I really like the app. But a bit confusing to use and the app choices on the bottom of the screen are hard to read because they are white on white. Can't really see the set up, save etc. commands. Can that be fixed?

Wonderful!!!!

I've been using this app since late 2010 for Cross Country, Track (Indoor and Outdoors) and every workout and with XC starting up I figured it is time to write a review. It's wonderful!!!! It does everything it says, the development team is responsive (it even has obscure field events) and frankly its fun to use. Last fall at a 50 team championship meet I saw 5 other coaches using it so I guess I'm not the only one.

Bad Update

I just updated the app, which I like, but now it is displayed improperly. The coaches clipboard is covering other buttons so I can not update athletes. When I do try to add or delete athletes, the keyboard covers the display so I can not see what I am typing...therefore all my names are auto corrected. Frustrating update.

Great Potential, but . . .

I gave this a four. I would give it a five+ if the issues I describe are fixed.

I used this app for the first time at last night's track meet. It was easy to enter the athletes and set up the events, although I couldn't figure out how to import my athletes. I love the concept and potential of this app, but found it difficult to time multiple competitors in the same event. The buttons are too small, especially the relay split buttons. Since there is no tactile sensation of pressing a button, I was often disappointed to find that I had missed the button or pressed the wrong one. When you are watching for the finish or the relay exchanges, you can't be looking at the iPad and this made it difficult to press the buttons, especially if you were trying to time two relay teams. It also crashed on me three times. When I reopened the app, the timer was still running, but it had messed up the splits. Each time it crashed it was when I pressed a button to record a split.

I really like this app and would love to use it regularly, but until the crashing is fixed I can't rely on it. I would also suggest an interface change where there is a screen for set-up where you can make all the choices and then a screen for doing the actual timing which has bigger buttons. Part of the problem is that the program allows for 100 athletes which is great for cross country but overkill for track. But having that many competitors requires small buttons. Perhaps having the program adapt to how many entrants you have would help. Or for a quicker fix, I would suggest that the Competitors area on the screen be widened and the results screen be narrowed. The buttons for getting splits should be as large as the Start button since accuracy of touch is compromised by having your attention on the races.

Love the idea...

I love the idea of this app, and if it worked as one might expect-- it would be the ONLY clipboard a track/XC coach would ever need...period.

However, it is flawed and it makes you frustrated. The stop watch and individual buttons do not react nearly as fast as they need to in order to give instant/accurate splits during workouts. There seems to be a long (1-2 second) delay to the whole program.

Also, I'd love to have a "split all" button, just like the "start all" and "stop all." This way you could time workouts much more effectively when you have more than 1 person starting a repeat. Otherwise the app is useless. At the very least, the ability to edit the text file that the splits are being dumped into would help to edit mistakes on the fly-- while the clock is running.

The delay needs to be improved and some simple/intuitive features need to be added in order for this product to be worth what you pay for it.

The way the app is now, it really should be free...

Wasted $10!

This is the first review I have ever written, but I feel very strongly that this app is simply not what I would expect from a $10 app. I have been trying to update my athlete database, but I can't get 2 athletes entered before it continually crashes. I love the concept, but I wish I would have used this money on a usable purchase.

Weak

This is without a doubt the worst app that I have downloaded. Free or paid! The concept is great, but ... That's about it. You should be able to toggle on and off all of the events you want viewed. Once an athlete or athletes are selected and the click starts, the button should change to stop. You should be able to turn off the unnecessary time of day the the stopwatch starts and stops for each race. Lots to be fixed before this is a useable app

Nice But Not Accurate

It looks great but crashes quite a bit AND when you have multiple runners crossing the line simultaneously it has two major weaknesses...you can't watch them and the screen at the same time and there is a delay in recording times as you click buttons quickly - so two runners crossing at exactly the same time will show several seconds between them in the final results. Not nearly accurate enough for the $10 it costs.

Great app

Used the app at a meet this weekend, worked great! Would get 5 stars, but relays showed total time for each handoff, so I need to subtract times for splits, using a watch would be easier for relay splits.

Useless Outdoors

The app is well made and is great in theory. In use it is almost worthless. Sometimes the app shuts down in the middle of practice. It is useless outdoor. The glare alone makes it virtually impossible to see. If you can overcome the glare you will have to sacrifice battery life to boost the brightness of the screen.
Above all else my main issue with the app is tracking the athletes workouts. It's easy to arrange groups of runners and blow your whistle to start the interval for all runners. The issues arises when they are crossing the finish line. It is almost impossible to record accurate times because in order to stop the clock for an individual runner you either have to take your eyes off the runner so you can aim and touch his/her name on the pad or you have to blindly touch the ipad because you have to watch when the athlete crosses the finish line. This makes for highly inaccurate times. What's worst is if you are timing a 60m or 100m workout you have to rapid fire tap the names as the come across and there is no way to watch who crosses the line first and touch their names without looking at the screen. You will almost always miss the mark or touch the wrong name and record a highly inaccurate time. The app is well made but not very accurate in use. It looks and works impressively when showing someone but to use it at a meet or in practice is nothing more than a waste of time. If there was a way to fix this than this would be the greatest assets a coach could have. As it stands currently it is useless.

Adding Photo

Love the idea of adding photos but App resets every time I try to add a photo I even reset my iPad2 and tried again but didn't work.

PE teacher

Love this app. Makes tracking class times so easy. Only two wishes, wish we could import class lists from excel or numbers and export results in the same format for data tracking and graphing results over a long period of time. Other than those two items, the app is awesome and flawless. Has really helped out an elementary gym teacher track results.

Close, but room for improvement

Still waiting on support for field events - shot/disc/high jump/long jump/triple jump/pole vault/javelin. Granted, it is a "running" app, so there is some slack to be given, but it would be a far more thorough and recommendable app with field events included.

Overall, it is a very useful app for most track and field events, with a few annoyances that many people may not even encounter. I look forward to future updates that could potentially boost it into the "outstanding" category!

Great APP

Great App... Used it religiously during the track season! the kids enjoyed it aswell heck they volunteered to track each others times. Loved it!!! A must have for all Track Coaches!

Track Coach Must-Have!

I took a chance paying the 10 bucks for this app, but it was money well spent. Easy to use and accurate to the 1/100th of a second. I love the ability to send recorded stats via email directly from the app. I use my Evernote email address to send results for record-keeping and archiving. This season, I've not taken a single sheet of paper to the Track. This app works great for meets as well as for practices. A great feature is the ability to edit timed results before sending them. I would encourage any Track coach at any level to go to the developer's website and check it out. I paid more for this app than any other for my iPad, but like most situations, you get what you pay for. So far, I have no regrets for investing in it.

Amazing

This app is perfect for workouts and Cross Country Meets! I haven't had a chance to use it for a Track Meet yet, and don't think I would be effective except for timing my own athletes, but for intervals, split times during Cross Country meets and all kinds of workouts it is the best app ever! It would be nice to incorporate a "Scoring" feature to help me score a meet "on the fly" at the finish line. Also, some of the export features could be spruced up, but my 5 stars even include that consideration!

Works well

Works well. Easy to use. You can order athletes in anticipated finish order which makes it easy to tap times when a tight pack crosses. Have used both at practice and in a race situation. Emailed results...done! I have and do recommend to coaches especially managing those races/practices when you are short on help! Best app I've found to time cross country.

About time

This app puts it all together. It's beautifully conceived and wonderfully executed. I can take splits and instantly share the times with other coaches and the team. Moreover, the developer is responsive and strives to improve an app that doesn't need much improvement.
