About

Running Companion coaches your runs, intervals, Zone 2 sessions and hybrid races, with live heart rate alerts and spoken cues that keep working while your iPhone is locked in your pocket. TRAIN IN THE RIGHT ZONE Set your max heart rate once, then give any part of a workout a heart rate zone or start from the ready made Zone 2 Run. Connect a Bluetooth chest strap, an arm band, a tracker that shares its heart rate, or your Apple Watch. Drift out of your zone for ten seconds and you hear "Slow down" or "Speed up" with a haptic on your iPhone, repeated every minute until you are back. INTERVALS THAT FIT YOUR WORKOUT Build workouts from timed, distance and open segments, each with its own timer. Recoveries can end on time, or when your heart rate falls to the number you choose. Every segment change is announced, so you never need to look at the screen. HYBRID RACES Practice race day with eight 1 km runs between eight strength stations, each timed on its own. Indoors, distance comes from your steps. GPS RUNS Distance and pace live from GPS, an audio cue at every kilometer or mile, and elevation gain saved with every outdoor run. Turn on Auto Pause and an open run stops the clock when you stop and starts it again when you move. LEARN FROM EVERY RUN History keeps each workout with its splits, its segments and a heart rate chart that shows how long you stayed in, above and below your zone. Outdoor Zone 2 runs of 20 minutes or more show their aerobic drift, and Running Companion suggests a higher max heart rate when your recent runs show one. APPLE HEALTH AND APPLE WATCH Finished workouts are saved to Apple Health with their distance, route and elevation, next to the heart rate and calories your watch already records. With Apple Watch as your heart rate source, Running Companion opens on your watch when a workout starts and streams your heart rate to your iPhone every second. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No account, no subscription, no ads and no tracking. Your workouts stay on your iPhone and in Apple Health.

What's New in Running Companion

1.2.0

Better auto-pause, and pace targets for your intervals. • Pace targets: give any outdoor run segment a target pace, like 2 km at 4:30. Drift more than 3 seconds per km slower and you hear "Too slow" with your current pace, then "Back on pace" once you recover. A pace card on the live screen shows where you are against the target. • History shows each rep's average pace against its target and how long you spent too slow, so you can learn your pacing. • Auto-pause now uses your GPS position as well as your speed, so it catches the traffic lights it used to miss and no longer stays paused once you're running again. • Choose how long you stand still before auto-pause kicks in, from 3 seconds to 3 minutes, in Settings.
