Great if no problems
App and pickup/delivery work well when they work, although it's somewhat cluttered and tricky to navigate coupons etc. But....when the puller messages that an item is out of stock they don't wait for an answer about a substitution, they close out the order as complete and you cannot talk to them any more.! And if you need the item, and order just the one item you are forced to use the chat to request refund of minimum order fee, and then again when you receive it. The chat is AWFUL. Have to request live agent and then they don't stay in the chart either! They want the order number when they can simply look up your account but name and phone#.

Difficult to follow activity. For example summary of choices made, ads or coupons clipped. No explanation of “digital coupons”.
Blocks VPN users
Disappointed that the Safeway app won’t let you log in or use it while connected to a VPN. In 2026, using a VPN is a basic privacy practice, not a red flag. Blocking it feels like the app cares more about tracking user location/behavior than respecting how people choose to protect their data online. Please add support for VPN connections — forcing users to disable their privacy tools just to check a grocery list or clip a coupon is a bad look. Until this changes, I can’t recommend the app.

App is still broken when using an iPad in landscape mode
Since iPadOS 26 was released in 2025, when launching the Safeway/Albertsons app with the iPad in landscape orientation, the app launches and displays the site in the upper right corner of the iPad screen and does not fill the full screen. Reproduces 100%. The user has to rotate to portrait mode, then back to landscape to fix. I’ve reported this to Safeway developers many times and the issue has yet to be fixed. Does Safeway app developers not test their own app? 🙄

I would stop in occasionally at Safeway but the app is one of the reasons I’m hooked. Then I started realizing there are so many Safeways around me. I also love their sushi!

Store Mode doesn’t work
Store Mode remains disabled so digital coupons can’t be scanned. That’s what I want the app for so it’s basically useless to me.
Weekly ads not loading is been a few weeks
Weekly ads not loading is been a few weeks now. I thought the last update from last week would fix it but no. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling and shutting down my phone, but nothing. Can see the U deals but no weekly ads…
Requires opening twice
App fails to load on the first try every time. I have to close and reopen. Sometimes it gets stuck in the middle of shopping and I have to close and reopen.

I love this app. It allows me to save $100s per year on coupons. I also love the home delivery or curbside pick up options.

“Upgrade” is confusing
The app changes are annoying as hell. The app defaulted to delivery (which I have never used and didnt realize) so I couldn’t scan for the in-store coupons. I ended up having a very condescending cashier explain it to me. Not intuitive at all, and kind of embarrassing.
