Beware: Rentier Capitalism Strikes Again!

No free app option & it buries the lead. Scrolling & clicking through information before hitting you with the $50/yr subscription price. If OpenTable ever creates a free health inspection companion to their free restaurant reservation app, Sanity is a wrap. Better yet, I’ll just ask the City to create their own free app. Public health shouldn’t be paywalled.

Can’t use without paying for subscription

Too expensive, and you shouldn’t have to download an app to find out it’s useless without committing to payment.

Response from developer

Thanks for giving Sanity a try! Our pricing is listed in the App Store description, and everyone starts with a 1-week free trial with no commitment, so you can cancel anytime. Cheers!

Good for kiddos

Got all my kids to signup, nice app

Actually So Helpful

I've been loving this app! It's become my go to whenever i'm trying to decide what to eat or want to know what i'm actually consuming. The information is easy to understand and has helped me make more informed choices without feeling overwhelmed. Definitely recommend if you're trying to be more mindful about what you eat.

Unusable

Can’t even access the app stuck on before you start page

Response from developer

The "Before You Start" page is not broken, as confirmed with our engineers! To proceed past that page, please press the checkbox above the continue button to continue. - Cheers

No free option

Downloaded the app and no free option is available to try.
Not trying a “free trial” just to access the app. It looks really promising. Especially for where I work with all the restaurants around.

Response from developer

Thanks for checking out Sanity! Glad the concept resonates with you. We created a pay-to-use product so that we can have the resources to keep the inspection data fresh and independent. We recognize the product isn't for everyone, and welcome anyone to try out the free trial(no strings attached!).

50$ a year for public info

Although this app is educational, all inspections are public information, charging 50$ is a bit deceptive.

Response from developer

Appreciate your feedback!! You’re right that health inspection information is public, but in our experience, the public information forums aren’t helpful or easy to use :( We take pride, as a team of OCD germaphobes, in collecting, sorting, and presenting the health inspection information in a way that’s actually nice to use! We track the status of every establishment, accurately rewrite overly complicated violations, and notify our users the moment new health inspections arrive for their favorite places. We know our app isn’t for everyone, and we make it very clear that we charge $47 a year, which comes out to $3.92 a month (the price of a black coffee haha!), or $0.98 a week. Thanks for giving our app a try! - the Team @ Sanity

Nice app

Found this app from Tiktok, didn’t know how dirty some restaurants can get. I use it mostly to make sure I’m not eating at any places with rats or roaches.

Germaphobe

This isn’t the perfect solution to me being comfortable eating out, but it helps, especially eating out with friends

Super helpful

Visiting NYC for the fifa cup games and it’s helpful seeing this information. So many places here are unsanitary it’s concerning. Definitely helps choosing where to eat without worry.

Local Bar

I frequent a Boston bar called hub pub… never eating there again lol
