What's New in Scenery

1.1.21

August 28, 2026

Lights, and scenes that can start on a wall or a table rather than only on the floor. NEW Lights. Add a spot, point or directional light from the Add menu, each with its own colour, brightness, reach and falloff, placed and aimed with the usual gizmo. Spot and directional lights cast shadows. The scene's built-in dynamic light now has a switch of its own, so you can work with only the lights you placed. Choose where a scene starts. A new Placement section decides how a scene finds its place in the real world: the viewer places it, the experience places it automatically, or a printed marker anchors it. Pick the surface it targets, set a minimum size so a scene won't land somewhere too small to hold it, and viewers who don't have the marker to hand can place the scene themselves. Objects are named when you create them. A new object arrives as "Object 1", ready to rename and to find from a script. Names stay put when you reorder the scene. Say which OS version an experience needs. A new Minimum OS Version setting under Platforms tells viewers on older systems that an experience is unavailable, rather than opening it and leaving parts of it missing. Lights from a script. createSpotLight, createPointLight and createDirectionalLight build lights at runtime, so a lamp can pulse or a beam can sweep while a scene plays. Scripting runtime 0.3.0. More control per scene: hide the pause and capture buttons, turn off the placement confirmation, and hide objects from the context menu on iPad as well as Mac. FIXED Placement is steadier throughout. A scene waits for the kind of surface it asked for while one is in the room instead of settling for whatever is in view, finds the floor before placing rather than after, no longer strands the placement indicator in mid-air, and no longer puts wall content at your feet. Interface panels on Apple Vision Pro respond to input again. Buttons inside a panel receive taps, panels take the corner radius you set, and a panel that sizes itself to its content grows to fit text filled in later. Typing a large number into a field no longer changes it. In locales that group thousands with a period, 1000 read back as 1. Scripted value animations are smooth again, and they pause with the experience rather than jumping ahead. Sound stops when you leave an experience instead of playing to the end of the clip. Hiding the content inside an object works from its own row. Turning off auto-start survives saving. An experience made from a template keeps its scripts. The keyboard works in the Create Experience screens on Mac.

User reviews

Both the most powerful AND easiest to use

I’ve used nearly all the XR creation platforms out there and honestly none of them offer what Scenery can do. Not only is the platform crazy powerful, it is also the most inutile XR creation platform out there. You don’t spend time wrestling with how to do something, you spend your time creating. Countless times I think of an idea and within mere hours I have a polished experience ready to publish. On other software that would take days at best.

Another big feature of Scenery is that you build once and it works across all Appel devices. That’s been a big plus for our clients who want the most mileage out of an AR project.

Artist and Educator

This app is amazing and allows artist to create mind awesome experiences! This is also a very powerful tool for education and storytelling. Great value and great app support.

Great creative tool

This app is incredibly intuitive—like using a photo editor, but with videos, 3D objects, and sound that you can bring to life right in your living room. I created my first experience in just a few minutes, and the possibilities feel endless (I use it for storytelling and interactive art). The variety of interactive triggers is impressive, and the more I use it, the more I love it. Plus, the community around the software is super inspiring.
