Love the app but

I have used this app every day for six years now and love being able to listen to Scourby read the Bible to me. However, my purchase was to be a one time purchase and and every feature worked for a year or two but then the only feature that would work was the reader and all the extras are ridiculously high. I am thankful the reader still works.

This audio version gives me nostalgia

This audio version gives me nostalgia when I was a little boy. My mom listened to this in the background while I was very little so when I listen to it, it gives me memories of my early childhood my mother, and he is also an excellent reader.

App does not work well with Bluetooth

The app plays for a few verses and then starts skipping the first few words of each verse…the audio is gone for a few words when playing through Bluetooth. If you click the arrows to go back to the previous verse, then the audit works and then starts failing again after 4 or 5 verses and you can’t hear the first few words.

For this reason, the app is unusable.
Fix this or refund my money.

Spiritual Investment

After deleting it the other day because of the added feature purchases that turned me off. I kid you not and swear to you that my soul literally found it unacceptable to delete such a Goldmine after 7yrs of listening to this gem.

So I redownload the app and decided to purchase the FULL package deal that’s $31.99/yr, which is less than $3 a month.

Trust me when I tell you that’s it’s worth every dime that your spirit will reward you 10fold. Besides, we ALL spend way more trash on nonsense everyday anyway. Think of it as a spiritual investment that’ll pay you an interest rate 100% for life.

Peace be with you

Unresponsive/rip off

I’m paying for the backup feature and I recently changed my phone only to find that the last time my playlists were backed up was August 2024 even though I have it set for automatic backup. Imagine my shock when in December 2025 when I purchased a new the phone, my last backup is August 2024. I have sent three emails to three different email addresses and no one has responded. Yet faithfully the in app fees are charged to my account. Disingenuous at best given that they changed their business model and started charging users who would have purchased the app for years for features that they originally had when they purchased the app. This is not paid app.

Can’t be trusted

I purchased the app with everything advertised and included for 20$.
So they take all the extras that I already paid for away and say I have to pay so much yearly to keep them. Who’s to say if I was to pay that that next month they take it away again and say, now you have to pay monthly and try to charge me again. It’s hard to believe you can get ripped off on a Bible so but trust me these people are untrustworthy.

Subscriptions required for anything optional

I have an older Alexander Scourby KJV Bible reader that has everything this one has and more. (It's called PalReader Bible KJV
Book and Audio)

Unfortunately it's not being updated. This app has variable reading speed but you must pay for it every year. The same things goes for the timer. The old app has a feature to read a certain number of chapters and stop. This one doesn't have that. I'm sure that would be another paid subscription each year. So sad to see this app be so greedy.

Backup/Restore Not Working

The backup and restore feature has stopped working. This feature was a recent add on purchase. So far no response from the developer.

Audio quality sounds muffled

The audio quality sounds muffled and not remastered. Huge difference when listening on YouTube and this app. The app version does not sound crisp especially if you play it over a speaker.

Nothing changed

I guess they still haven’t changed. Still ripping people off.

Scourby is Excellent, but the App is terrible

Clunky, outdated, in need of attention. And for the amount of money it cost, and for the amount of money that each feature costs annually, you would think the developer could at least make an effort in bringing it up-to-date.

That said, Alexander Scourby himself is tremendous.

Crashes

Love the app, however it crashes as soon as I tap on it once the reading plan has been completed.
I have to delete the app and re download it.
During the reading plan it operates okay, except the pause and play from my AirPods is glitchy. Most of the time I have to open the app and pause, even when receiving a phone call.

Missing Text

We love this app and Scourby's feeling that he puts into each verse. BUT...there are words that drop off MANY verses and some complete phrases are missing!!! What's going on? We have had this app for several years and it did not do this in the beginning. Please correct this issue.

No Support

I read my Bible through multiple times each year I have owned nearly every version of Scourby’s KJV recordings. First few years of this app were good, but it seems each revision gets worse. Then they started charging for these revisions. Things that were part of the app originally are no premium features at a cost. I contacted the owner and they said it was to pay for coder to do the updates. Each update offers new problems. The latest updates automatically make the program crash and require uninstalling and reinstalling each time I complete the Bible. When I do that, all of my customized playlists disappear and I have to manually reenter each and every one. It is very irritating and time consuming. Before the last update, this did not happen. I have contacted the owner about this and get NO response. Also, I have asked for a 4 month Bible reading program for past few years with no response. They offer 3, 6, 9, and 12 month plans. 3, 6, and 12 make sense as that is 4x, 2x, and 1x each through year. 9 month plan makes no sense. A 4 month plan would be 3x through each year which is what I have done for several years. I don’t care if they offer other plans, but why not offer requested plan, especially when I pay for it?

Update as of 4/28/25

They STILL have not fixed the bug that makes the app unusable EVERY time I complete the Bible reading, nor have they added the reading through the Bible every 121 days (4 months) that I have asked for the past 5 years. If it wasn’t the only way to get Alexander Scourby voice for Bible reading, I would drop this app like a hot potato.

Love it!

Probably my most used app. As a truck driver I get to listen to the Bible several hours a day by one of the worlds greatest voices! I am richly blessed by this app and would recommend it to anyone!

Ok, but has some problems

Most of the time the first word of the verses and sometimes even the second one is skipped. This is very irritating.

Best Bible App Ever

Love all the features it offers, very interactive. Love the speed control feature for the spoken word the most.

Bugs

Updated review 1/14/2024: The chronological reading plan is bugged. First, it has no option to repeat on a loop. But after it finishes the whole Bible, if you click the little button that looks like an circle arrow, it restarts the reading plan back to genesis 1:1, and then the app immediately crashes. Then, when you restart the app, it immediately crashes again. You can never open the app ever again, unless you fully reinstall. So there’s no way to repeat the chronological reading plan. Second bug is with yet another paid feature.. the “repeat” feature, which is a paid subscription. If you set it to repeat the whole Bible, it only repeats ONCE. Then, you still have to manually click play again, to make it go again. You can tell that the company that owns and makes this Bible app does not actually use this app. Otherwise, they would have noticed these glaring bugs.

audio now useless

The first word or two of every verse can’t be heard. it’s as if some fade in functionality got broken. Now it is impossible to listen to Scourby read the Bible as his legacy copyright holders spend more effort chasing down copyright violators than actually providing his voice to another generation. Very sad

Filthy Lucre over God’s Word

I purchased this app 15 years ago for $20, which was ridiculously high at the time but thought it was worth it to have all the features and support the app . One of the first apps I ever purchased. Now all the features I paid for are not available, and I have to subscribe to have them. Not happening.

The devs are greedy of filthy lucre apparently.
