About

What is a collop? • the sound of rain on a roof • a small boat made of birch bark • a slice of bacon, a rasher Did you guess? The answer is at the very bottom. Knowing what a word means is one thing. Making up a definition so good that your friends believe you over the dictionary is something else entirely. Picture it: You’ve never seen the word before. You write something that sounds just right. The answers come up, everyone votes, and there it is: your best friend picked your definition, not the dictionary’s. This is Scrattle: Expose everyone else’s definitions, but bluff even better yourself. Everyone writes their own definition of the same word, and the dictionary’s own definition hides among them. Find it and you score. If anyone falls for yours, you score for each one who does. Not a word genius? Doesn’t matter. The one who knows the most words rarely wins. The one who bluffs best does. No one to play with right now? You can start straight away. If there aren’t enough players, bots jump in. THREE WAYS TO PLAY • Live game: five words with whoever is online right now. • Long game: challenge your friends and take your turn when it suits you. With chat, so you can tell them exactly what you think of their bluff. • Around the table: pass the phone around on a trip, at a party or after dinner. WHAT YOU GET • Over a thousand words you’ve never heard, with real definitions from dictionaries • Laughter, suspicion and triumph, often in the same round • New words you’ll actually remember • Proof in black and white of who’s best, you or the people you play with • Ten languages, each with its own words • Free. No ads. No sign-in. Pick a name and you’re in. The answer: A collop is a slice of bacon. Did you fall for the birch-bark boat? Then you know how it feels. Now it’s your turn to write the bluffs. The definitions come from Wiktionary. All sources: scrattle.app/kilder
