Nice concept

It has a nice design layout, good sounds and is fun to play around with. But the pricing for a license to run this app is horrible. $80 to avoid paying a subscription fee? Disappointing.

Response from developer

Thanks for the kind words about the design and the sounds. Lifetime is not the only way to get Pro, and it is not needed to use the app fully. There is a monthly plan and a yearly plan, both priced to be accessible, and most people start with the monthly one. Lifetime is a separate option for anyone who does not want a recurring payment at all: bought once, never renews, yours permanently. That is why it sits above a year of the subscription rather than below it.

Impressive app!

An impressive new app. If you want a streamlined tool for live jamming and sequencing external gear (drum machines, synths), particularly for electronic music, you need to try this out. I was shopping for a more powerful hardware sequencer. For the time being, not anymore!

One difficulty with using sequencers is that you need a good balance between usability and depth. Too technical and deep and you get stuck in programming stages and experiments. Too superficial and you end up with the same bloopy sequences or beats again and again.

Here you can quickly find a key, lay down one or two types of sequences (e.g. acid line, general bass, or stabs, basic euclidian) and then randomize, create quick variants, and apply various mutations. Even better: you can work out sequences on phone (and now ipad) with stock sounds to use later once you’re back working with hardware. All of these features push you towards making music. For example, you can’t edit the stock sounds and the core sequence types are deliberately constrained (e.g. a single euclidian sequencer has three pulses at a time).

I’ve used the app quite a bit in the last week and have found a couple minor bugs, usability issues, and had a couple of ideas for development.

Possible bugs: Sometimes stabs pitch up and down an octave when you enter them or randomize. It’s not always clear why. The visual representation has also been inconsistent on them sometimes. I also love the new iPad release generally (was using phone version on iPad) but I’ve noticed if I add variations (which introduces a new bottom row to the rack card) the display cuts the very top and bottom off of the display. Still perfectly usable, but might benefit from being longer.

Usability: I like the ‘halo’ gradient effect when you touch the screen and make selections. It works well on the dark versions of the app. However, on the light versions, the halo obscures the display enough that it can be difficult to navigate some options.

Ideas for development: I much appreciate the minimal approach and like the choice to avoid too much customization. Suggestion 1: I would love to be able to offset the start of a sample (e.g. to start a bar or two into the sequence). Suggestion 2: in the chord sequence, I would appreciate the option to select ‘silence’ or ‘no chord’ for a section of the sequence. This would allow for sequences with breaks.

Thanks for your work on this, keep it up!

Thank you so much for the high praise and for such valuable and helpful feedback. The ideas you suggested will definitely be considered for future improvements to Sequentia. And thank you as well for reporting the bugs - they will also be carefully investigated in detail.

Very intriguing app, but…

$80 is a little steep for the perpetual license. I completely understand that developers need to get paid, particularly solo ones, but $80 is on the extreme high end when compared to some of the best tools in the industry. I mean I can get some of the best synths, fx, sequencers out there, packed with content, for significantly less and those are backed by a team of devs and piece of mind that it won’t be vapor ware in 6 months.

BTW, this does really appear to be a well thought out, polished app that’s worth investing time into learning but the pricing model as it is now is probably gonna be too much of a barrier. I’d love to be able to outright own the app, but for now I’ll probably continue testing the free portions as long as possible, to get a better feel for what’s on offer here. Kudos to the dev if there’s no time limit or major restrictions for checking it out.

My advice to the dev would be: you have a legitimately interesting app here and to consider a rent-to-own option and/or dropping the full price to $30 max. Again, I sympathize with the plight of a solo developer, but some of the best iOS music making apps are a fraction of the cost of this one. I mean access to Apple Logic on iPad costs me $4.99/month.

Either way I’m really interested in testing out this app and will support it the best I can if the functionality matches the presentation, but the pricing does seem a little out of sync with market.

Thanks for the feedback. Lifetime is not the only way to get Pro. There is a monthly plan and a yearly plan, both priced to be accessible, so everyone can pick what fits their budget. You do not need the Lifetime version to use the app fully. The monthly Pro subscription unlocks everything.

so much fun

Very inspiring workflow with a perfect balance between manual input and generative features (both is possible).
The UI is fun both on iphone and tablet.
Amazed by every single update!

Response from developer

Thank you for the great review! 🖤 We definitely plan to add a "run in background" option in the future. Due to technical constraints, an app must generate its own audio to remain active in the background. To make this possible, we are working on a major update that will introduce a full internal audio engine. This will achieve two major goals: it will officially enable background operation, and it will allow musicians to create, hear, and save ideas entirely standalone, without needing to connect external MIDI devices. Stay tuned!

Masterpiece

A masterpiece of software. Powerful, great looking and very well made.

Response from developer

Many thanks for your positive feedback and the high rating.

Great potential

Lovely app with huge potential. Curious what the developer does with this gem of an app. Keep going! 5 stars hands down

Response from developer

Thank you for your high rating and support!

Game changer !!

One of the most inspiring MIDI sequencers I’ve ever used. The generative workflow is intuitive, creative, and incredibly fun for live performance.

A few feature requests that would make it perfect:

* Add a Waldorf Protein CC preset/mapping.
* Add a Song/Playlist mode to chain projects seamlessly for live sets.
* Make pattern variations even faster to trigger during performance.
* Please bring native iPad support!

Thanks for creating such a unique and inspiring app!!

Response from developer

Thank you so much for the five stars and such thoughtful feedback, we really appreciate it. We'll definitely add a CC preset for the Waldorf in an upcoming update. And in a bigger update coming later, there will be a Scenes mode and a Live Jam mode, which will let you do exactly what you're asking for. Down the line, once the app is stable and fully featured, we'll definitely look into iPad support too. Thanks again for the support.

Fun app so far

This is a fun app so far, good UI, intuitive, and easy to use. However any time I add a module like, bass or acid, the extra modules do not produce any sound. Only when I mute and unmute them do they play the first step and then nothing else.

Response from developer

Thank you for your high rating and feedback! We’ll definitely investigate this bug and fix it in the next version. Thank you for reporting it and for helping us make Sequentia better!

Amazing app

Really fun! Love pulling my phone and just jamming around with this app. Very well thought interface for iPhone.

Response from developer

Thank you for the high rating and the positive review! I really appreciate your support. There’s a lot more exciting stuff already in development, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with you. Thanks for supporting Sequentia!

2026

Excellent! Plz Auv3, adaptive to Cubasis 3.

Response from developer

Thank you, that really means a lot, and thanks for taking the time to leave a review. AUv3 and an iPad version, so it fits nicely with hosts like Cubasis 3, are both things we want to do. Right now the focus is getting the iPhone experience fully right based on real user feedback, and AUv3 plus iPad support are next once that groundwork is in place. Thanks again for the kind words.

With 2.0: the perfect companion!

Incredible with midi and now standalone !!!

Response from developer

Thank you very much for your high rating and your review. Your feedback helps us continue improving the app, and we’re glad you enjoyed the new audio engine in Sequentia.

Well made!

Very well thought out it’s so fun and functional. SUGGESTION - it’d be awesome, If you included a few more straightforward style choices like pop/rock. Kinda all techno heavy styles currently.

Response from developer

Thank you so much for the kind words and the five stars! And great point, the styles do lean techno-heavy right now. Good news: pop, rock and a bunch of other non-techno styles are already built and on the way in an upcoming update. Thanks again for the feedback, it's exactly the kind of thing that shapes what we add next.

Delightfully simple, super inspiring

I bought a lifetime license minutes after using the app with OP-XY. Ridiculously easy to set up and super fun to use as an idea starter. It’s a great way to explore genres you’re not familiar with.

I also appreciate the design of the app. The visual design and UX are on point.

$40 for a lifetime unlock is an incredible value. So stoked I found this app.

Response from developer

Thank you so much, this genuinely made our day! So glad it clicked with your OP-XY right away, that's exactly the kind of workflow it was built for. Really appreciate you noticing the design and UX work too, a lot of care went into keeping it simple. Welcome aboard, and thanks for going Lifetime!

WOW Great

Very good idea. Please make an iPad and iOS Version. Thank you in advance for your efforts.

Response from developer

Thank you so much for the kind words and the five stars! An iPad version is definitely something we want to build. Right now the focus is on getting the iPhone experience fully polished and learning from real user feedback, and once that's solid, iPad is the natural next step. Thanks for the support and the patience!

So much fun!

Unique and very inspiring balance between manual and generative sequencing.
Best sequencer UI for phone imho.
A "run in background" option would be useful.
Thank you
