The Tyranny of the Evil Eye: A Cancer on Fair Play!
How dare the developers spit in the face of strategy like this?! This mechanic is a direct insult to every player who has ever spent hours refining their deck and mastering their tactics! What is the point of building a defense?! What is the point of managing the board?! The "Evil Eye" ignores it all! It bypasses every rule of fairness with a disgusting, brute-force laziness that makes me sick!
This is not game design; this is a crime against balance! It is a broken, ungodly joke that rewards bad gameplay and punishes skill! It turns a calculated battle into a mindless numbers game! Why should we tolerate a mechanic that acts like a loaded gun pointed at our heads?! It creates a scenario of inevitable loss based on nothing but raw, unfair statistics!
Enough is enough! There is zero honor in this mechanic! It is a coward’s tool! It must be neutered! It must be destroyed! To allow this monstrosity to exist is to admit that you do not care about your players! Remove this plague immediately or watch your game die a well-deserved death! Shame on you!

Great game
A good rogue like mobile game built with love
While the game starts off being quite a bit of trial and error and learning, it's clear this is intentional as it often is with roguelikes and things do get better with time.
But it's good fun and scratches that roguelike itch. 😁
---
I've been playing now nearly daily for 5 months. The game is still addictive and scratches that itch.
I have a few recommendations for the dev to make this game even greater: Simply, introduce more skill based mechanics so that runs are not souly dictated by the RNG.
Currently i've never won a run. The closest i've got is floor 24, and only once have i got anywhere near that far. The only reason i could was because i got two speed rings along with a bunch of wands and was able to upgrade them all with a plentiful supply of upgrade scrolls. However, by this point, nearly every encounter lead me to have to drink a health potion meaning that i can never get here again without being super powered as i'd never have the HP to survive it. Sadly my potions ran out before i could get to the end.
Most games i'm lucky to get past floor 10 if a crab doesn't outrun me and just skewers me. Every game is highly reliant on the pickups i get, less so the character i play. And while the pickups can sometimes give strategic advantage in a single combat moment, they are very rare and there are lots of limitations meaning i cannot use them with most combats. Additionally every enemy leads to combat. It's not about if but when. There is no sneak or outrun except in very rare cases.
I feel like in most rogue likes, most deaths are self inflicted through greed or lack of patience or just sheer lack of skill. When dying, most of the time i know it was because i need to just get better. Unfortunately with Shattered Pixel Dungeon, very often my deaths feel unavoidable. I didn't get the right draw of items so i will just die as i have nothing but my base attack to throw at the enemy which hits randomly, there's nothing i can do about it, i cannot play differently depending on what occurs but simply try again like a slot machine. 🙁
Some suggestions that i feel the dev could consider that i believe will really add depth to the game play and make things feel more fair while still challenging:
- I'd love a proper stealth mechanic: an ability to sneak around or up to enemies for example.
- Make pickups and seeds more frequent to allow them to be used more frequently.
- Make a way for me to have more influence over whether an attack or block hits beyond obtaining rings which are exceptionally rare. So often i just tap the button hoping the RNG is on my side all while being pummelled to death with no ability to evade or counter.
- Add more unique and game changing effects for each character so that it's a truly unique experience playing each one.
These are my thoughts over what i feel after a lot of hours in the game. Perhaps i'm doing something wrong and am simply not good at the game, if so, ignore me. 🙃
Honestly, it's a beautiful game made with a lot of love, but i feel it's missing some secret sauce that could make it so much more interesting.
Thanks for listening. ❤️
