About
A speedometer that keeps up.
iPhone's GPS reports your speed once per second - that's a hardware limit no app can
change. What apps can change is what happens in between, and most of them do nothing,
which is why their numbers lurch a second behind you.
Skidometer reads speed straight from the GPS chip's Doppler solution, then uses the
motion sensors to carry the reading forward between fixes at up to 120 frames per
second. The result responds to your foot in about a tenth of a second instead of a
full second.
- Full-screen seven-segment display, readable at a glance
- Choose 0, 1 or 2 decimal places, and how large the digits are
- Portrait or landscape, with a rotation lock for mounted phones
- MPH, KM/H or knots, from a button in the top bar
- Red on black for night, black on white for daylight glare, or pick your own two
colours
- A signal indicator that tells you how good the GPS fix is, and dims the number when
there isn't one
- No account, no ads, no tracking, no network access at all. Your location never
leaves the phone.
Skidometer is a supplement to your vehicle's own speedometer, not a replacement.
Please keep your eyes on the road.

Make the display yours. Digits too big for the mount, or too small to read at a glance? There's a size slider now. Choose 0, 1 or 2 decimal places - and a compact mode that trades the hundreds digit for a third more size. Red on black is right at night and hopeless at noon, so there are six colour schemes now, including two for daylight, plus your own two colours if none of them suit. Anything you can't actually read is refused rather than saved. Units have moved to a button in the top bar instead of tapping the screen, and a new indicator shows how good the GPS fix is - with the number dimming when there isn't one.
