No longer works like a wiki

At some point overnight my app updated and when I opened it up it’s a completely different app. If you were using this as an E2EE Obsidian replacement, it’s broken now. I can’t find anything without using search and since I made my notes in a wiki (like the app description says: “ Write notes, create wikis…”) everything is really jumbled up, and I can’t find some of my files so I think they’re missing now. Before, the app was okay, if a little clunky, but now it’s really slow and it’s like a totally different app and it no longer matches the description! I’ve put the description from the app at the time of this review’s writing here so people understand what I mean: “Skiff Pages facilitates not only note-taking, but also creating complex wikis and documents.[…]Use Markdown or embed files and images in your pages.” Right now since I can’t make wikis and none of my embedded files work anymore, I’m pretty much screwed and I can’t even see if I have all my files because I was using the (ADVERTISED) wiki structure to take notes and stuff! I’m going to have to go borrow my sister’s computer to try to salvage this (at least I think I can salvage this) and then I guess either go back to Bear or/with Obsidian to do my usual notes on my phone. I’m really disappointed now and I can’t believe I told all my friends how great this app was. It’s really embarrassing. 2 stars instead of 1 because the update made it so the keyboard isn’t always in my way anymore, but my friend on android says her keyboard doesn’t stay open long enough for her to type anything which I guess keeps it from being in the way? I don’t know enough about apps to know if that might be a problem on iOS and since I can’t find any of my files or anything I don’t really feel like testing it myself, but I don’t like how many bugs my friends are getting off the update anyway so even if I wasn’t going to stop telling friends to use it because it doesn’t even do what it says anymore, I’d still tell them to not use it because I’ve heard of so many bugs.

Mostly good

I do love this service and their commitment to quality and privacy. My only gripe is that I’ve been struggling to get a document to sync between iOS and Mac. It’ll save the changes on one, then immediately revert them when I open the document in the other app. Very frustrating.

Care about your docs? Don’t touch Skiff.

This was the last chance I’m trusting this service with my documents. I NEVER lost WiFi connection yet tell me why, on two separate occasions, did my files completely vanish? The first time it was 15 docs and they came back after 20 minutes of having a panic attack. The second time, the version history displayed nothing. My entire document reverted back to the way it was 3 hours ago. If you peddle this service you should honestly rethink the horrendous advice you’re giving people. BE CAREFUL. DON’T touch this with a ten foot pole.

Response from developer

Hello! Can you contact support at support@skiff.org? All documents also have extensive version history - and we can help you with any issues.

A powerful notion ALT

Skiff Pages has been great so far as an alternative to notion that has more privacy, focused and powerful for collaboration.

Loses / deletes data

Have had multiple instances of the app just “not saving” updates to documents, sometimes deleting an hour’s worth of notes / updates. Absolutely unacceptable

Dogfood much?

Does anyone at Skiff actually use their own iOS apps? Can’t even get them to load a login screen.

Ridiculous.

love the idea

I love the idea of this app, but it simply doesn’t work.

Working with it.

I’m very interested in this app, and I like the directions it’s moving in. There are simple bugs however, which are annoying me, like the fact that my keyboard blocks the cursor area when I want to edit!

I love the concept, and I know improvements are constantly coming. I support skiff

Promising but still very rough

App routinely freezes on IPadOS unfortunately and is borderline unusable. Hope these issues are resolved soon. It would be great if the website didn’t redirect to the App Store. I would at least still like to use this in the browser, where the app seems a lot less buggy.

I’m here to support Skiff, but still buggy!

I just tried to select text and turn selected text into bullet points, but it would only break the page and cause me to reload it with no changes. I then lost the text input into the app. The web browser app is working better, but still looking for stable functionality from the mobile app.

Lots of errors

As many others have said, it’s nowhere ready for IOS, Photos don’t work, many pages open to blank white pang and with no back arrow or option it stays until you shut it down. No way to import item directly into a folder of choice.

Great free offering

Keep up the good work

App still needs a lot of work

Love Skiff and the entire service, but the app needs a lot of work still. Especially UX-wise. If it were 30-40% better I’d move all my things over tomorrow and be a power user (and would be happy to pay).

Buggy

The design looks good. Very good pricing. But the app is buggy enough to be unusable. The / drop down hides behind the keyboard. Buttons are not aligned. This app is just a webview without much thought put into making it usable and it shows. Using the product in Safari is more usable.

Glad there’s finally an iOS app - but it needs work

Love Skiff and so glad an iOS app has finally been released. It’s pretty clean and works okay, but there are some significant bugs. 1) if I open the app, switch to another app, and come back to Skiff - I’m left with a white screen. It won’t load and I have to force the app down and reopen it. Every. Time. 2) the breadcrumb often goes off alignment with the text running too high. 3) I primarily want to review my notes, click the links, but it often just goes into editor mode and the experience is not good. Let me toggle to go into editor. 4) when in editor mode (I.e. keyboard showing), I often can’t scroll all the way to the bottom of the page.

Hopefully this helps and we see the app improve. I’ll keep using Skiff just not sure it’ll be done via iOS for the time being 😢

Beautifully Organized Layout

Im really glad I found this app and can’t wait to see all the new features added in the updates. I’ve always been a fan of Slack and Discord as well as programs like Evernote and Onenote and this combines them all in one. Not to mention it’s all on a decentralized blockchain. Just WOW!

A must-have for anyone

This app is incredibly aesthetically pleasing and, not only is it beautifully designed, but it is clear it was built with all kinds of users in mind. It’s very user friendly and makes a great addition to my privacy toolkit.

Similar to Notion but better

Love this app so far. I use the web version on my desktop as well. It’s the only e2ee collaboration platform that’s useable
