Life saver

I’m ecstatic to have have this app! It calms the anxiety I was experiencing not knowing which products I could or could not use.

Bad information overwhelming an otherwise great user experience

It seems like their product ingredients and allergens is very often incorrect, making their good user experience useless. I’ve reported (with no response) numerous errors resulting in false positives, where the app says a product is unsafe for a list of allergens, based on ingredients the product does not have, whether as reported on the packaging, product web site, or even the ingredients SkinSAFE lists. I’d love to hear from the product team about why there are so many apparent errors, with a commitment to update the app, and happy to replace this review if I’m mistaken.

100 to a product containing TALC?!!!

Did this app not get the memo that most all talc contains asbestos?!!!! I am in shock they would give a 100 rating to something containing it! Look it up if you don't agree! Deleting this app and not believing a word it says cause clearly they are not up to date on harmful ingredients in makeup products! UPDATE your app or do some more research!

Incredibly helpful

This app is so incredibly helpful for those of us with multiple allergies to figure out what products are safe!

Love the concept, hate the app

I’ve had this app for around 4.5 years now and I absolutely love the concept and have a direct medical need to use it frequently and with ALL my products, however — the app sucks so bad. It logs you out all the time, then even when I save my passwords it tells me it’s wrong, when I try to reset my password I go through the whole process then go back to log in and it says “request cancelled” ?? Then I try to input my new password and it’s “incorrect”. Nothing works to get back into this app. And when I’m lucky enough to get in, I set my biometrics to use my face but it tells me it’s expired and I have to log back in and then logs me out again. It’s incredibly frustrating.

Never answer email.

I have sent emails. I never get a response. I paid for a year they have it for a month. App is good to use so you can find what you can use.

💲All they want is MONEY ❗️

I have had various unexplained rashes and itchy patches since I was a teen. I am almost 70 now! Told to try numerous tactics to try and alleviate them. Everything from OTC dandruff ‘remedies’ to various prescriptions along the way. I finally had a ALLERGY PATCH TEST done by a dermatologist and it identified 4 skin ingredients that irritate my skin. The dermatologist recommended this website for checking products’ ingredients so I can avoid my allergies. WONDERFUL! Finally on the right track, or so I thought. I was scanning multiple products at the store and the many things that I already owned. Only had been on this site for about 2 weeks when a pop up said that I had reached their limit for the number of scans, and that I was now limited to 1scan per day☹️ Of course I was ‘encouraged’ of get the premium version of the app, for a fee. Now, a few days later, I can’t even view the products that I have already scanned without ‘upgrading’ to the paid version of the app❗️. 😡
The Dermatologist did not mention that the “FREE” app only works for a small amount of time. Nor does the App Store site provide any sort of information except “IN APP PURCHASES”.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS APP❗️❗️(Especially now that it’s holding my already scanned product searches hostage unless I pay up)

Great At Home

The app works great at home. But in the grocery store, it appeared to be blocked.

Camera and Product Avaiability

Your App is a life saver! But-Please improve your camera and zoom & focus capabilities for adding products
And so many products I finally find safe for me are “No longer available” Some are in Europe. Any chance to link European linked sites for ordering products?

Can’t live without it

Skinsafe is best, my app of the year! Easy to use, simply lifesaver. Thank you for Skinsafe. 💖

Lacks any value in free mode

I just want a basic app to help me compare a small list of allergies to products. That’s not available without a subscription. I might consider paying for value-add if the base app wasn’t bait.

Changing to 5 stars

Because they brought back the lists for the free version. I do wish it was more affordable but it really is a big help!

Lifesaver

I paid for the subscription and being able to instantly scan something while shopping and know if it’s safe for me is incredible. My only suggestions would be 1) adding more filters of where a product is available (ex Sephora and Ulta), and 2) it would be nice if there was a scale of some sort because my 100% safe products are extremely limited but there are many products that have TRACE amounts of only one of my allergen and would likely not cause a reaction

Customer service non-existent

I’ve attempted to contact them three times for a code. No response. It’s been a month and a half.

Terrible Company

This app is a joke. Apparently there are zero products safe for me. Indicates ingredients not even listed on products. Contacted companies directly and the app is WRONG over and over. Aldo terrible customer service I have contacted them 3 times with zero response. They want your money but are zero help. Save your money or use the one approved by ACDS!! Much more accurate!

Don’t buy premium

This would be a fantastic app for people with skin allergies, but unfortunately you have to buy premium to see what specific ingredients the product contains that you may be allergic too, at least I think that’s how it works. I wouldn’t know because I purchased premium but nothing has changed as far as what I could see when I had the free version and it still prompts me to purchase premium when I try to go deeper into the app. And don’t bother with CS, they will reply once and then forget you ever existed without resolving the problem.

Staying healthy

I’ve been trying to make sure all products I use are heathy and safe. This app is helping.

I really want to like it

This is a product that is so desperately needed. Unfortunately, in its current iteration, it is NOT worth the money.

Here are some of the issues I’ve run into:

Search:
Their search function could not be worse if it tried. If I search “Vanicream cleanser” it says no results. But if I scan my Vanicream daily facial cleanser’s barcode, it’ll show up. But then if I favorite or try to add it to my “use daily” list, it won’t show up. You can type in the exact name of a product word for word and it will not be found in the search but will then pop up when you’re browsing. Truly. Have never encountered a product search that was so dysfunctional.

Adding products:
If I scan a barcode and the product doesn’t come up, I’m rarely asked if I want to add it to have them analyze, despite that being an advertised feature.

Product coverage:
Super basic, ubiquitous products are not included. Talking Vanicream, Neutrogena, Burt’s Bees level stuff. Same with higher end popular skincare brands, like Peter Thomas Roth.

Ingredients lists:
They’re not always complete. I cross referenced a couple and found they don’t have every ingredient listed. Given what this app advertises as its purpose, this is dangerous and irresponsible.

Disappearing items:
As mentioned, favorited items or items added to your lists will fully disappear. This is especially concerning when you’re adding items to the “got a reaction” bucket.

Got a reaction bucket:
Since they advertise this as AI, I for some reason thought I’d get insights by adding things to the list of products I got a reaction from. No such luck. What a bummer.

Cross your fingers they get their ish together because this is a great idea. It’s just terrible execution.

Really bad info

Be very careful with this. The information is very limited and does not educate users about the negative aspects of ingredients. There are so many missing capabilities that it certainly shouldn’t cost what the app developer charges. Simple examples is to let the user scan the ingredients on the product label and provide an immediate analysis of the known ingredients and flag those that are unknown. Elementary solution, it’s not there. Just an overpriced, poorly designed app.

Great app

This app is great. One thing that seems to be missing is the ability to filter products based on an ingredient you cannot use (feature that is available from the desktop site). It would also be great if you could filter by more than one ingredient also. I plan to ask my allergist about a code, but I know we will find more things. I am allergic to, and I’m not sure there is a way to update on my own.
