A paid app should work better
In order to have features that are necessary to find out what products you can use, you need a subscription. Fine, we can call that fair since it is a service. However, what you pay for a yearly subscription, the app should work so much better. It is very clunky and not intuitive. I would hope my subscription money would go towards app development. Some major issues:
- cannot search for key words and if it is even misspelled by 1 letter you have 0 search results. For example searching “Castile soap” would not work. You need to search the exact product name. How are you supposed to find products without clicking on the dedicated category and endlessly scrolling to find products?
- product names have to be exact, and when you search a brand name, 0 products show up
- it says if the product contains an allergen type but doesn’t tell you what ingredient it is. This prevents you from better informing yourself of the ingredients that may trigger reactions.
- there is no way to turn on and off individual allergies. For example, oat is not a major allergen and I only slightly react, so some products I can be relatively okay with using.
- why doesn’t it scrape the internet for:
1. products that are international and domestic- I have many allergens and have had luck finding Asian skin care but but it’s never in the system.
2. All products of the same brand: currently there is a data availability issues. 1 color of an eye shadow could be in the system but the same brand, product, but different color is no where to be found.
- many products are found online and often do not have the barcode in the picture. How is it possible to add it to the system if there is no barcode? We should be able to also submit a web link, and data can be imported.
This app is a great resource and has significantly helped my skin. I care about this cause and for this reason I ask for some serious web/app development.

Not safe
Will tell you products are safe to use even with unsafe ingredients listed

This app is my life saver. I wouldn’t not be able to live without it. My skin is the best it’s ever been because I know what I can and cannot use.
Life saver
I’m ecstatic to have have this app! It calms the anxiety I was experiencing not knowing which products I could or could not use.
Bad information overwhelming an otherwise great user experience
It seems like their product ingredients and allergens is very often incorrect, making their good user experience useless. I’ve reported (with no response) numerous errors resulting in false positives, where the app says a product is unsafe for a list of allergens, based on ingredients the product does not have, whether as reported on the packaging, product web site, or even the ingredients SkinSAFE lists. I’d love to hear from the product team about why there are so many apparent errors, with a commitment to update the app, and happy to replace this review if I’m mistaken.
