Only paid version available
I’m not doing that, nor am I doing a free trial just to use this once.
It looks nice from the demo, like audacity packaged up but as a paid version.

Hello Soren356fbjh - as per the app description "Due to Apple's distribution policies, free trials require a subscription selection. If you would like to try Smaart RTA before you buy, start with a subscription, then cancel it to avoid billing.". There is a Lifetime option which does not have reoccurring billing, however (again this is Apple's policy, not Rational Acoustics) a subscription selection is the only way to access a free trial. Otherwise, yes this is a paid app. No Ads, not data selling, no arbitrary limitations to encourage upgrades. We are confident that the pricing we have chosen matches the apps value at the various (6 possible) pricing tiers and hope that you will give us another shot in the future! Best - RA

Thank you for the candid feedback. Pricing transparency is something we take seriously, and is why all pricing is including in the app description. It is Apples policy that free trial periods are only available for apps that use subscription sales models - which we detail in the description. Smaart RTA is listed as "Free" due to this policy, which is coincidentally why we cannot offer a free trial for the Lifetime selection - Apple doesn't allow it. That said, we completely understand your frustration, but are confident that the pricing we have chosen matches the apps value at the various (6 possible) pricing tiers and hope that you will reconsider in the future. Yes - The App 'access' is tied to your apple ID, so as long as both devices are logged in to the same App Store ID they you can purchase once and use on both devices. Best - RA

The Pause function is meant to clear the live measurement when viewing stored data. To view the "paused" data, select on the 'view' icon, represented by an Eye in the lower right of the RTA plot. Best - RA

Hello PrimeSammi, The save state is slated for the next update. Regardless of the pricing tier the underlying RTA and Spectrograph code is the same as the desktop versions of Smaart. As we spend more time developing this app we hope you’ll come back and give it another shot! Best - RA

It has worked with the devices we've been able to test - but we have by no means tested all external audio devices available. What is the particular device you are using that cause the app to crash? The app is the same for iPad and iPhone, so not sure how that could effect it as long as it is supported on the device and can provide enough power. Forces you to pay on first launch

Hello - You are not charged, nor do you have to pay to use the app, within the first 7 days of the free trial. You can cancel anytime within that period with a simple click. Unfortunately due to the way Apple handles trial periods, a free trial for a lifetime license is not allowed. Apple forces us into a subscription choice first. *EDIT* give credit where it’s due: the developers at Rational Acoustics reached out to me directly with a thoughtful and detailed explanation of the constraints they face due to Apple’s current rules around trials and purchases. They were transparent about the tradeoffs involved and acknowledged the value of what I was asking for.
I suggested they consider implementing a manual, time-limited trial period (e.g., 7 days of full functionality), something I’ve seen work well in other apps, and they were open to the idea. While I still hope to see a more user-friendly trial experience in a future update, I really appreciate the direct and respectful communication from the team.
Here’s hoping that as development continues, they’ll find a solution that allows curious users to explore the app before committing to a subscription. Until then, I’ll keep an eye on updates

Hi Graham! We completely agree with you, and wish that this was possible in the framework Apple provides. I would like to offer you some inside baseball as to how we got where we are. Apple provides three fundamental paths - paid subscription, "Lifetime" subscription (they don't even call it a perpetual license), or a totally free app (same as Lifetime, but with 0 cost associated with it). Lifetime downloads are, fundamentally, not able to have a free trial associated with them - only subscriptions allow you to enable a trial period (Apples rules, not Rational Acoustics). This was one of the trickier parts of developing Smaart RTA, which allows for two feature levels, at 3 different price points each depending on the level of access desired: monthly or annual billing, as well as Lifetime purchase of either the base or full functionality. Effectively, there are 6 different possible ways of accessing Smaart RTA. We have full control over this, and wanted to give potential users the ability to purchase whatever feels right for them. The rub here is that some decision has to be made up front by a potential user to access the app because, again, there is no way to have a free trial without first subscribing to the product because Apple controls the licensing. The other approach is to use a "freemium" model, where you enable some level of functionality for free, with the ability to change those core settings disabled until a purchase is made. I think this is what you are specifically looking for? We've discussed this sort of model internally, and it's not off the table entirely, it will just require some time to implement. The initial "welcome" screens are based on comprehensive study of other developers apps and how they approach this conundrum that Apple puts you in. All that to say, we appreciate your feedback and hope that you will revisit us as we continue to develop Smaart RTA. Best - RA.
