Fakes
I’m disappointed to see two obviously fake coins being offered in the current auction.
I say ”obviously” but too may of these things are now in circulation, fooling innocent people into purchasing.
They are mass produced in China and available over the internet for just one or two dollars, re-sold in Australia to people, not well informed, often at their considerable financial loss.
Reputable coin dealers will not handle these objects unless they are clearly stamped ‘FAKE’.
I once bought a Chinese made fake Australian Centenary florin from you after only seeing it on your website. After paying for it, and on closer inspection at home, I realised it was obviously not genuine and returned it to your showroom after getting my suspicions confirmed by a reputable coin dealer.
I was pleased to have no trouble in getting my money refunded. The seller most likely believed the coin genuine, but both of us were either losers or inconvienced by having this 'coin' in circulation. It was also a waste of your time.
I am increasingly aware of the number of fake high-value coins (such as sovereigns) being sold- not by S&W- on eBay, Gumtree and Marketplace. Many are excellent reproductions, fooling collectors and dealers alike, and needing several tests such as XRF to prove metal purity and place of minting.
May I suggest S&W not accept any high-value coins for sale unless accompanied by some proof of authenticity? These fakes need to be taken out of circulation.

A Mixed Bag
S&W have a great selection of items to choose from at their weekly auctions & their prices are very reasonable compared to other similar auction houses in Adelaide. Unfortunately their descriptions lack detail (e.g. furniture measurements) & I have bought numerous crockery items only to discover damage to multiple pieces once unpacked at home (no A/F) in description. It is not always possible to come & view your items so if you want to widen your buyer pool with online bidders, then descriptions need to be better.
