Useless

The box is labeled with smartlabel, says download this app. Download the app and it doesn’t recognize the scan.

Not sure why this exists

Downloaded this 2025/July/31 after noticing my product’s barcode was tagged with “SmartLabel”.

And that’s where the experience ended. Dove, men’s care product, not recognized. My life won’t change because this App doesn’t work, but save yourself some time and go outside and get some fresh air.

Useless. Use Yuka instead!

Firstly, the barcode scanner is finicky. It needs the barcode in an upright position. What? Something software can do.

Secondly it shows manufacturers safety reference. Right, like that’s of any help in the USA especially where there are lax safety standards.

Also, it didn’t list Methylisothiazolinone on the first scan I did. This is a high risk chemical! So the program is HIDING this from you. My guess because they are in collusion with the manufacturers.

From what I can see it’s just a way for manufacturers to make products appear safe. I wouldn’t be surprised if this company and app is created with money from the manufacturers.

As others have said

The app does have great potential and I like what little it does, but it needs to do more. Like others, I experienced the app telling me the product I scanned was not a smartlabel product despite the fact that it is, and a search returns the product in the app's database. I suppose there could be some small thing about the product that doesn't match any of the very many types of Colgate Total toothpaste in the app's database; maybe this exact size isn't there or something – it's hard to tell because there are so many variations on the same product list listed in the database and the full name and traits of each product is not visible in the list on my phone, so I'd have to go to the details page of each of about 50 different products in order to see if the exact one I have in my hand is in the list...

Anyway, the app does have great potential, and I like being able to tap each ingredient in the product to see a short description of its function; unfortunately the implementation is far less than complete, and as of this writing the app has not been updated in two years, so I have to think it's abandonware. A shame, considering the app's potential to provide a great deal of information that interests many people. Oh well...

Doesn’t scan

Tried it on the barcode and it won’t even scan it and bring the product up.
