Great Concept, Poorly Executed and Feels Abandoned
I really wanted to love the SmartLite Director system because the concept is excellent, especially for controlling Litepanels Gemini lights wirelessly on professional productions. Unfortunately, it feels like this product was abandoned before it was ever fully developed.
The Bluetooth modules and app have been unreliable, frustrating, and nowhere near professional-grade for real-world production environments. Setup is clunky, connectivity is inconsistent, and the overall experience feels unfinished. For something tied to premium lighting products like the Gemini series, the software ecosystem simply does not match the quality or price of the hardware.
I love my Gemini lights themselves. The fixtures are excellent. But I honestly feel scammed after investing in the Bluetooth modules expecting a polished control system that never materialized.
Litepanels had an opportunity to build a strong ecosystem around these lights, but instead many professionals I know have moved toward competing brands with better integrated control solutions and more actively supported apps.
If Litepanels revived development and seriously improved reliability, usability, and long-term support, this could have been a fantastic product. In its current state, it feels unfinished and abandoned.

Crashed my phone, locked up lights
This is impossible. I can’t believe these expensive lights work less well than the Amazon $30 LED’s I have for Halloween. These are impossible. I was just about to get into an important shoot, lights connected and hard to reach, and BOOM. THEYRE LOCKED. No access. Now every change is either wait for full reset or literally go up a ladder and disturb the set. This is TERROBLE

Needs an update, help Vitec Group
I paid $1000 to upgrade my lights to work with this app. It crashes upon load unless I delete it and reinstall before each use. (iPhone 12 with iOS 15.1 & 15.3)
UPDATE: Still crashing. Now on new iPhone 16 with updated software. This is unacceptable.

Don’t waste money on Bluetooth hardware
I would say it almost borders on a scam that litepanel still sells the Bluetooth module for their astra 6x lights. In the 1 year that I have owned the Bluetooth module this app is SUPPOSE to work with it has worked ZERO times. I have tried numerous iPhone and iPads and nothing. They make great lights but horrible app and module.

Makes me want to buy Aperture lights
Sidus link while, not perfect, is 1,000 times better than this app. It was great for the first gen of iot lighting but it hasn't evolved much since.
