Points for reading is great
I have used the app for years and now earn points toward a gift card just for reading articles I would read anyway. The sources/selection of articles is solid, I can block sources or subjects I don’t want to read. Breaking News comes to my screen IRT.
It was good but it’s a battery killer.
It’s a fairly good news aggregate but it used 27% of my battery in 37 minutes of reading today. It’s got to go whatever it’s doing jamming up the processor getting the phone hot. Sometimes I like to read statewide news stories but the local tab I use it for is local to the entire state of Ohio.
Used To Be…
I loved this app, it to be great! But recently that started embedding files that keep pulling me away from what I was reading. Who the hell’s bright idea was that. You were great, now you just SUCK. I’ll get my new elsewhere!
My me time
I like reading the articles it gives me time for me and some quite time.. I like how the writers don’t have you jumping forwards and backwards to understand the story
This is a very biased news app. Worthless. It’s so bad that it’s embarrassing.
In many cases, the facts reported here are blatantly false. They especially no practically nothing about the American political system.

Great Way to Stay Updated
SmartNews is a good app for keeping up with the latest news. The interface is clean, articles load quickly, and it's easy to browse different topics. I would like to see even more personalization options, but overall it's a reliable app for staying informed every day.
Biased News
This was advertised as finally a neutral option for news. It’s as biased as the rest are. I downloaded it to get fetch points. But it’s an app with the clear intent of slamming Trump and conservatives.
Too Much Click Bait
Some of it’s articles are good, but many are biased, and a lot is click bait. For example, today, the article that keeps popping up about Phil Collins being summoned to say goodbye due to his health, then you open it, and this happened in 2024. Do you need clicks so bad you have to use misleading headlines?

Articles appearing for weeks and months after EVENT AS “BREAKING NEWS!” Not what I NEED.
As BREAKING NEWS!!! But IT IS The same EVENT appears for 4 days in a row with a time stamp of 4 hours ago. Not updated or modified in any way. Is this intentional manipulation of the news or an attempt to sway your followers? WTF
Sudden Far Right Emphasis
SmartNews used to post articles from legitimate non-partisan sources. Suddenly overwhelmed with articles from NewsMax, Fox, Washington Examiner, Just the News” and other MAGA sources.
Room for improvement
Good collection of news but uses way too much data and battery. Increasing ads doesn’t help either.
Your app is becoming average and trending downward
Too many obtrusive ads. It is getting worse and its offensive.

Pros and cons
Excellent variety of news articles individually customized. Too many articles and ads flagged by my software as “questionable links” has become a major concern.
Audio on Ads scares! 😳😬
Audio is toggled OFF, but Ads’ audio cannot be turned off & it scares the bejeez outa me when I’m scrolling in silence. You’re fixin to give someone a heart attack. 😬😳 Please fix!

Most of this app is very accessible to people who are blind and have vision impairment.
However, I read it three stars because the rewards section where people can earn gift cards for reading this information news stories, which is very nice and I like the wide variety of outlets, you guys have here.
However, I would really appreciate it if you would continue to make this app reward section usable for people with screen readers so that we can also be able to collect gift cards for reading. Thank you.

Confusing
I really don’t know what to believe in this app. One day I get a notification that Trump’s approval rating is the highest ever. (Which I doubt). Then the next day I get a notification that Trump’s approval rating is the lowest it has ever been. Which one is accurate?
SameNews
Same old bias news as every other organization, it’s played out. And even though I’m getting points gift card through another app. The money just isn’t worth the same headlines as every other mainstream media.
