Snowpack Report: Snow Depth

Most snow reports repeat what the resort put out that morning. This one reports what the instruments measured. Snowpack Report reads the public station networks avalanche forecasters read: the USDA's SNOTEL network and California's CDEC stations in the US, BC's automated snow stations in Canada, and the SLF's IMIS stations in Switzerland. It shows you the reading, the station that took it, how far that station sits from the resort, and the time it was read. Ski areas across the US, Canada and Switzerland: some have an automated station nearby, many more are read every morning by a COOP observer, and the ones nobody measures say so on their own page rather than showing a zero. Forecasts are the National Weather Service in the US, Environment Canada in Canada and MeteoSwiss's ICON model in Switzerland. Thirty-year medians come from each station's own record, where it goes back that far. Road surface comes from state departments of transportation. Opening dates are the resorts' own announcements, with the date we checked. THE RULES WE HOLD OURSELVES TO A reading we don't have shows as blank, never as zero. Stations sit near mountains, not on them, and every screen says which station and how far. Measured numbers and resort-reported numbers are never mixed. Nothing commercial touches the data. WHAT THIS IS NOT This is not an avalanche forecast, a road closure service, or advice about whether to travel. Check your regional avalanche center, your road conditions service, and the resort before you go. Drive times and leave-by come from Apple Maps, with traffic, from where you are. SUBSCRIPTION Premium Annual and Premium Family (up to six people) both run for a year and renew until cancelled. The Trip Pass runs seven days and does not renew.
