Great Little App

Apparently, as of March 2026 SolarEdge has discontinued their watch app. Downloaded this one to give it a try. I had a few issues with some of the data, not appearing correctly. Contacted the developer. He responded back to my email within 24 hours. Apparently SolarEdge had tinkered with some of the data fetching on the API side of the SolarEdge server. The developer corrected these issues and released an updated version a couple of days later. Fantastic developer with great customer service/support. Now that I have been using the Solar Watch for SolarEdge app for a couple of weeks now. I can tell you it has way more features and displayable information than the SolarEdge watch version.

Solar Watch app

Great app. Better than the native SE app

Response from developer

Complication on the watch face should update with new information about every 15 minutes. Note that for this to work, your phone must be nearby to provide network connectivity. On watchOS, the background data download for complications doesn’t work if the watch is on its own on LTE. If it's not working like this for you, try restarting the watch and iPhone at the same time, then start the app again on the watch, and see if it starts updating in the background. If that doesn’t help, try unpairing the watch from the phone and pairing it again. Let me know at marconelly@gmail.com if the complication still won't update on its own even after the restart.

Disappointed with complication

While the app works, the complication doesn’t show current production until you select it and force a refresh. I was hoping for like updates every 15 mins like the widget. I was hoping for something different than the official SolarEdge watch app which is free and does the same

Has been good but having issues

I’ve used this app for years and it’s been just what I want. Recently though it’s resetting to zero at six PM local time instead of at midnight. That’s before sunset this time of year. I contacted the developer through their site but have not heard back.

Response from developer

Hi! Can you please contact me directly at marconelly@gmail.com while I investigate why I didn’t get your support email. Number zero could be showing if the unit is not producing any power, but I’m not sure if that is what you’re seeing. Regards, Marko

Response from developer

Hi! I’ll see if I can show the house consumption. Not sure if it’s possible.

Just what I was looking for

Initially had an issue setting the app up, the developer was quick to respond and help me out (needed a simple reboot on both devices).

App is simple and works as you would expect. Perfect!

Works as promised

Works as promised. I can see my energy on my watch as a complication. This is important because I am a nerd. And I have had 2 inverters failed. So I am glad to have a regular reminder that I am making energy!

Just what I was looking for, thank you!

I’m really enjoying how much faster it is than the solar edge app. The watch complications are nice also.

Two things that would make it even better:
- iOS 14 widgets
- better background watch complication refresh, perhaps based on the 5 min intervals imposed by the solar edge api 🤔

Habe mehr erhofft

Arbeitet mit der Apple Watch 3 nicht gut. Es werden nur die kWh vom ganzen Tag angezeigt im Ziffernblatt. Ich hätte gerne die aktuelle Leistung.

Response from developer

Google-translated to German: Hallo Dennis. Original reply in English: Hi Dennis. The small watch complication displays the current power during the day, and total generated power during the night, when the current power is 0. Note that you can use one of the larger complications that will show both at the same time.

API requires you are an admin user

This is not given to owners of SolarEdge inverters by default, it’s an onerous task to track down the installer and request being added.
Looks great by the way.
Just wish I could use it.

Response from developer

I’m really sorry that it turned out that way - I wasn’t aware that an inverter owner could end up in this situation. So far at least, no other users I know of ran into this problem, and I’ll ask some of those I’m in contact with, to see if they know why they got the admin access initially, or what they had to do to get it - and I’ll let you know if I find anything. You can contact me at marconelly@gmail.com if you want instructions for a refund, or just to keep in touch if I discover something. I would especially like to know if you are able to generate any API key while being non-admin. If you can, I will adapt the app to work with such a key. I really want to make the app work for you, and anyone else who is in your position.

works great!

Easy set up once you have your API from solaredge.

Simple and well designed

Love this app - the Watch complications are so simple and work really well. And the iPhone app is great too. Much quicker to get the info I want in my solar panels rather than opening up the Solar Edge app.

Lifetime Revenue

Thanks Marko for a fantastic app. Saves me having to constantly look at the widget/app on my phone. Will it be possible to have this feature work outside the US ? I’m in the UK.

Other than that great app. The following requests are easy for me to ask for. But getting them to work may be another whole kettle of fish.

Is there any chance of Siri integration ? So if I ask what’s my current generation? Or how much energy is the house pulling ? Either from the grid/solar.

Response from developer

Hi Vigneshp. I do plan on adding the Siri Shortcuts, probably in the next non-bugfix update. As for the lifetime revenue, I believe that should be working in the U.K. I think there is an option in the SolarEdge console where you have to enter the cost of a single kWh, and then the app can calculate how much revenue you have.

Displays solar generation on Apple watch

Great work! I really like this app as I’m still fascinated by my solar production.

Complication display auto updates every 15 mins on the watch.

I would love some indication of how many kw is being used by home and how much is being sent back to the grid - this data is shown in the SolarEdge app so hopefully is available via their api? For me it is much more advantageous to consume the energy at home!

Thanks Marko. I bought this after listening to your podcast interview on Apple WatchCast- even though I don’t have Nest (I have Hive). I appreciated your well thought out design and approach to make something with quality.

Response from developer

Hey Mat, glad to hear you're enjoying the app. Complication on the watch face should update with new information about every 15 minutes. If it's not doing that, please try restarting the watch, then start the app again, and see if it continues updating in the background. Let me know at marconelly@gmail.com if the complication still won't update on its own even after the watch restart. That's a great idea about showing how much energy is used vs. how much is sent back to the grid! If SolarEdge provides that kind of information, I'll definitely try to implement it into the app.

Brilliant little app

This is exactly what I wanted, to see my current generation and daily total on my watch. My only suggestion would be a 15 minute auto refresh as I have to touch the complication to get the data. Great job.

Response from developer

Hey Llama, Complication on the watch face should already update with new information about every 15 minutes. If it's not doing that, please try restarting the watch, then start the app again, and see if it continues updating in the background. Let me know at marconelly@gmail.com if the complication still won't update on its own even after the watch restart.

Simple, easy and just works!

The Solar Watch app works seamlessly with your iOS devices including Apple Watch & Device Widgets to keep you informed about your SolarEdge system performance. Easily monitor your systems energy output with a glance!

Good App + Wishes & Ideas

Does what it should which is pretty nice.

My wishlist (dreams):

- Instrad of API Key Login via SE Portal for higher refreshment rate
- Menue to set refreshment rate which App should get data from portal
- Siri shortcut integration „hey Siri what is my actual production“ and „hey Siri what is my solar production for today“

Works great

Works great, but how often is the complication updated on the watch face?

Response from developer

Hey The Spirit, can you try just restarting both your phone and the watch at the same time - then run the app again? Does the app show info on your phone? I’d really love to help you fix this problem, so if the restart doesn’t help, can you contact me at marconelly@gmail.com

Finally

Finally I can look at my SolarEdge system production with a quick glance at my watch. Thank you for making the app!
