About

Solve for X: Algebra Equations teaches you algebra by having you write the working yourself, one checked line at a time. Learn a concept, follow a worked example, then try guided examples where the app checks every step you write. FOUR WAYS TO LEARN Learn the basics Start with the foundations: naming the parts of an expression, variables and coefficients, signs when multiplying, and order of operations. Each concept has short ideas, a worked example and small multiple-choice checks. Hints are always available. Quadratics Rearrange quadratic equations into standard form, ax^2 + bx + c = 0. Work through balancing both sides, terms on both sides, expanding brackets with a multiplication grid, and clearing numerical fractions. Read off a, b and c, then solve for x with the quadratic formula: work out the discriminant, keep your signs straight and calculate each root. The app shows a substitution check in the original equation. Deeper skills cover factorising, completing the square, parameters and the discriminant, graphs of parabolas, hidden quadratics and denominators. Algebraic Rearrangement Change the subject of a formula using inverse operations, brackets, fractions, repeated subjects and subjects in denominators. Advanced concepts cover squared quantities, exponentials and natural logs, with restrictions and conditions stated clearly. Simultaneous equations Solve pairs of linear equations by substitution and elimination. Move on to linear and quadratic pairs, discriminants and intersections, keeping each x matched with its y. The app then substitutes your solutions into both original equations as a check. WRITE YOUR OWN WORKING The built-in maths board lets you enter expressions with digits, x, y, powers, brackets, fractions, roots and natural log symbols. Equations are typeset like a textbook. A wrong entry never changes your working, and the app explains what to look at and lets you try again. HINTS AND REVEALS Tap Hint for a nudge on the next move. Choose Reveal answer to see a step's answer and why it works, without it being filled in or marked complete for you. Undo and restart options are in each working screen. PRACTISE YOUR WAY Skip straight to practice equations in any topic. Choose Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced or a random mix, and resume your last question later. For quadratics you can add solving for x to each practice question. YOUR NUMBERS Change the numbers in a quadratic guided example to make your own variation within the concept's skills. BUILT FOR FOCUS Your place and progress are saved on your device, and learning works offline. Reviewing a concept never resets your working. The app supports Dark Mode, Dynamic Type and VoiceOver, with spoken descriptions of equations and graphs. Whether you are starting out or revisiting rearranging, quadratics and simultaneous equations, Solve for X helps you understand each move rather than just see the answer.
