I have used Spare Hands Students several times for different types of jobs. Every one of the students have been prompt and courteous. They work hard and get the job done fast. The CEO even reached out when a student was not available at the time I selected on the app and he got a student there and on time.

Yard work
This was my 3rd Spare Hands experience. The first two were excellent. On the third, a student was assigned, although I had requested my previous spare hand. The student was punctual, polite, enthusiastic, but he had zero experience in trimming up crepe myrtles and weeding. He willingly read the brief instructions and illustrations, and did a nice job on the trimming.
After he left, and on closer inspection, I found he had left many weeds, yet pulled up the perfectly-spaced dwarf mondo grass! I had asked him to let me know if he had any questions, so I was rather dismayed. This spring, I will buy more mondo grass and plant it.
How does one check the experience of a student who is suggested and assigned?

This is a wonderful service and the guys helped me wonderfully with my project. They were so polite and nice.
Unpredictable Rates

I am concerned about the way this app works. I requested a student with a truck who said his rate was $29/hr. That was in my budget. I ended up with a completely different student who quoted me $40/hr., including the truck. When the job was done, he charged me $50/hr. I asked him about it; he said use of the truck cost more, even though I had stated originally that I needed a truck, too. The final bill was $105 for 1.5 hours of assistance (let's call it 2 hours to cover his transport time). That amount is exorbitant for an unskilled job like this.
The app is unpredictable and doesn't provide enough protection for end users. We should be able to know in advance what a job will cost, not get hit unexpectedly with a high bill. It seems like students get to charge whatever they want, regardless of what they quoted in the first place.
Please fix this. Thanks.

Assembling a swing set
This young man had never done a job like, but did an excellent job of putting together a swing set.
No students until last minute and price$$
I had attempted to book 3 students for 2 different jobs. 2 of the first 3 selected backed out and I was frantically looking for 2 more prior to the event. I attempted 3 times to contact support. And then finally a few days before the event students were assigned. What I didn’t look at was the cost for the student thinking they were all in the 18-25/hr range like I originally selected. Well to my surprise when the event was finished one of the students was $45/hr. It was sticker shock for sure. I have since gone on to look for more help for every day kind of help and the hourly range is $30/hr plus. And although it shows 200+hands available only 10 or 15 are showing up to select from. For an all day helper that is as much as a professional that I can hire that brings their own tools and they are paying for insurance and have overhead. Make it affordable again!

Excellent work!
I cannot emphasize enough how happy I have been with the students that have come to our house to do yard work! Had one emergency job, and the student came within a couple of hours. Not only have these students had a great work ethic, they have all been so polite and delightful!
Pet helper
I asked for someone familiar with farm animals. The young man that showed up did not know anything about them. I needed him to catch and hold my alpacas so I could worm them. If my regular helper had not been here we would not have gotten it done. Plus he was here less than an hour but we were charged for 2 hours. I will not use them again!!!

Great app that connects the local community to local college students needing work! I have used them for several projects and each hand has exceeded my expectations!
Great Service
My husband and I were in a pinch and needed some help with a project and within a couple of hours we had 3 guys in our driveway to help. The communication was great and the service was affordable. Love this app and service!

I’ve used Spare Hand Students many times. I’ve always had great service from each and every one of the students. They are taking care of things for me that I am not able to do. I appreciate them so much.

USER BEWARE
This app purports to help students and local people who need help. However, it is a very deceptive app. It isn’t clear that if you list a job, you’re required to pay them even if no one helps you.
There is an option to cancel the invoice because you weren’t helped. But after 4 days, they reinstated the invoice and charged me.
I’m having to go through my bank to get a refund.
Be very careful if you decide to use this app. They won’t even let you delete your account without jumping through hoops and I’m still trying to get my account deleted.
I suggest you don’t use the app and find help somewhere else like Facebook Marketplace or a local job board.

Easy way to get any job done!
I've used this app over a dozen times in just over a month and will be continuing to do so! Every job you can think of, there is someone willing to do it for a good price. Everyone I've dealt with has always had a great work ethic and attitude! Cannot endorse highly enough!

Wonderful service
This app is fantastic. I needed help unpacking from a move. During the time they spent here they even did odd jobs outside of what was needed. They moved heavy furniture and assisted in best placement, helped decorate while unpacking, unpacked fine china with care, repacked items and delivered them to Goodwill, took all my trash out to the dumpster, even helped me get my car tire fixed and all with such politeness and actually made the process fun. These students care! Helped me out tremendously! I can’t suggest enough that you try this app out if you want great service for whatever your needs may be!
