Flawed from the start
Not even sure how that’s possible.
Pretty frustrating that it even considers them as possibilities.
I asked why it’s doing that and it said I probably have my keyboards setup like that….
For learners who love AI
Tried diligently for awhile.
It’s upfront about being an AI app, but I guess I didn’t expect that nothing would feel human about it. From UI to reminder notifications, just felt AI.
As for the experience itself, the mistakes and choppiness kept reminding me it was AI. Couldnt really “immerse” into the conversation.
Costwise, it ropes you into a bigger than normal upfront commitment instead of actually letting you see if it’s for you.
Not my cup of tea but I’m sure it’s some others. I think it’s more suited for beginners too.

I’m sorry the experience felt this way. Kigaru is supposed to feel more like a buddy who helps you learn and practice Japanese, so hearing that the UI, notifications, and conversations instead kept reminding you that you were talking to AI is really important feedback for us. AI is clunky and Screwed Up price plans.
The AI lags and can take multiple tries to register a the speech. It’s to the point where I spend more time waiting for the AI than learning. A 10 lesson takes 20 minutes be the AI is so bad.
Also, why was the only option in the app for $99.99 for 3 months and then in the Apple Store there is an option for $49.99 for 3 months and $99.99 for 12. Seems shady.
Also, when I go to type, I have gotten stuck and can’t return.
Also, I think the “tests” could be a bit more helpful and provide hints/feedback. It can disheartening to get prompted to say a sentence, but have no help or way to skip the lesson. Also the emojis don’t help.
As someone who learns from mistakes, doing four sentences without any feedback is useless for me.
Response from developer
Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We’re glad to hear you like the learning pace, but we’re sorry the AI delays and interface issues have made the experience frustrating. The speech recognition should not require multiple attempts or turn a 10-minute lesson into 20 minutes, and we’re actively working on improving its speed and reliability. We’re also looking into the issue where the keyboard can leave you stuck without an easy way to return. Your feedback about the tests is especially helpful. We agree that mistakes should lead to useful feedback, hints, or a way to move forward—not just leave you stuck or unsure what went wrong. We’re working on making these sections much more helpful for learners who learn through correction and explanation. Regarding pricing, we also understand why seeing different subscription options could feel confusing. The available plans can differ depending on where the subscription is being viewed, but we definitely don’t want the experience to feel misleading. We’ll review how we display the options so they’re clearer. Thank you again for pointing all of this out. Feedback like this helps us see exactly where the experience needs improvement.
