About
SPF Scout reads what a sunscreen label lists and compares it with ingredients you have chosen to flag.
You decide what goes on that list. SPF Scout never infers it for you.
This app started with a simple problem: my favorite sunscreen was discontinued. Finding a replacement meant researching countless products and Googling ingredients I didn’t recognize. I realized choosing skincare shouldn’t be this complicated, so I built a tool that makes ingredients easier to understand and helps people make informed decisions about the products they put on their skin.
WHAT IT DOES
• Scan a barcode, or photograph the ingredient panel, and see the ingredient declaration currently on file for that product.
• Every ingredient is shown with what it generally does — UV filter, emollient, preservative, fragrance ingredient — as factual description, not commentary.
• Ingredients you flag are reported when they appear, including when a label prints a different name for the same ingredient. The alias is shown, so you can see how the match was made.
• When a label declares a fragrance blend without naming its components, SPF Scout says so, and treats it as unknown rather than as a pass.
• Every record shows its source, its region, and when it was last verified, with a way to report anything that looks wrong.
ON YOUR DEVICE
The ingredients you select stay on your phone. There are no accounts and no sign-in. The catalog downloads to your device, so checks run locally.
WHAT IT IS NOT
SPF Scout provides educational ingredient and product-label information. It does not diagnose allergies or skin conditions, provide medical advice, or determine whether a product is appropriate for you. Ingredient lists and formulations can change. Always verify the packaging and consult a qualified healthcare professional regarding allergies or skin conditions.
Ingredient records are drawn from FDA Structured Product Labels for the US market.
