Notifications improvements

This is feedback from a walker:
Please make notification settings customizable. Notifications about canceled walks are not distinguished from the others at all. This is extremely inconvenient. Please make them more visible and noticeable, and ideally separate walk status notifications so users can choose to receive only those.

PITBULLS NOT ALLOWED DO NOT SUPPORT

When I said my dog was a pitbull I got a notification that they chose cheaper insurance and so supporting incredibly hurtful policies that end up with dogs losing their lives. This app does not support healthy lives for all dogs if they are going to give into anti-breed policies. You think you’re choosing the better financial decision when your profit would increase overall if you didn’t support something so horrible. There is not another app I would advocate to support less

questionable business

You are seeing a 4.9 star average rating of Spot because they offer walkers a $5 bonus to rate the app 5 stars here and on google. In reality, as a former walker, it kinda sucks. I wrote a review similar to this one a year ago, but it seems to have mysteriously disappeared.
I love the dogs and the owners I’ve met, but walkers are paid sometimes less than 50% of what the company charges for a walk. The number of walk requests in my area dropped significantly in the last few months I worked there and it was very difficult to secure a walk unless I accepted within seconds. The app itself was very buggy throughout the 2 years I worked there.
Both walkers and dog owners are better off working together outside of this app, or at least until Spot can fix its problems.

Horrible service if you’re a dog walker

I highly recommend dog walkers to stay away from this service and to get jobs through facebook groups, word of mouth, or Rover. I joined this service to make quick and easy money on the side while being a full time student and a part time worker at a vet clinic. I picked up a reoccurring shift in October of 2024, not understanding that they would schedule me all the way into March of 2025. I cancelled those shift and only planned to do the walk until the end of December. The first issue I encountered is that the dog required medications which was not in the initial instructions when picking up the shift. They also consider giving medications as a ā€œfeeding serviceā€ and they offer the feeding service for free. While yes the act of giving a pill and walking for 15 minutes is not hard, $12 is not going to cut it. You don’t get to set your own rates which is a big downfall even if you get to keep 100% of the earnings. I asked for better compensation due to the fact that giving a medication is not feeding the animal and I gave them a timeline that I would cancel the remainder of my shifts if I don’t hear back. Before that, I got a message saying I had cancelled over 85% of my walks even tho I explained to them that I didn’t realize it would schedule me that far in advance and that as a full time student, I could not commit to that schedule so I cancelled so that a replacement could be found. They also don’t tell you that you have to personally tell the support team an end date for the reoccurring walks or they will keep scheduling you. I never heard back about the compensation so I decided to cancel the remainder of the walks. I provided excellent service, was on time, and even walked longer than what the time was supposed to be… even during a snow storm. Then come to find out they suspended my account due to the cancellations and when I asked them to review my account, they offered no other explanations as to why they would not do so. This service puts a really bad taste in my mouth.

Not Really for Me

It was a fast and pro on-boarding experience, but unfortunately the excitement was short lived when I tried to try out the service and see what it’s like before continuing with it. I do believe that it is a good service where you can get regular work, but the pet parents have to approve you when you are interested in a job. My attempt to try it out kind of backfired. I made requests to walk a few dogs, none were approved. I then tried a few recurring dog walks and one got approved, but it was not disclosed how long it would be and all of a sudden all my Thursdays were booked in the middle of the day from September to February. That’s great for a newbie to really get going. I would have taken it if I were on my own, but I could see my partner getting upset about not being able to drop everything and go when he wants to.
After seeing this, I decided the model here was not for me and I had to just leave. I could say a lot more, but I won’t. This is actually a PERFECT service alternative in the Los Angeles area since WAG is impossibly too busy. If you’re looking for regulars and have the time to commit to them, you will do very well and it’s not too hard to get started. I do recommend them.

Way too many notifications

As a walker the notifications from this app are incessant. I wish there was a way to choose which notifications you wanted to get or were able to decline walks that you aren’t available for so I would stop getting notified about them. Most days I am getting 50+ notifications from Spot with most of them being ā€œthere are x number of walks available tomorrowā€ ā€œif you know your schedule in advance there are x number of walks available this monthā€. I don’t want or need these, I only want to see when a new walk comes available but Spot’s notifications are all or nothing.

GPS doesn’t work

GPS for walker to do their job doesn’t work on iPad. Implement option otherwise it’s no use.

big flaws from a walker’s perspective

I’m still confused as to why it’s a thing that walkers can see ā€œstoriesā€ from other walkers in random locations at the top of the home page, and why they still cause my app to freeze and crash every time. Even more concerned that the new updates now display walkers’ full names along with the story! Their recent updates have also made the active walk page longer & more difficult to navigate, which is especially frustrating when trying to do so quickly with two leashes and a poop bag in hand.
Furthermore, I think Spot has changed their pay model. I believe they’ve increased the prices for dog owners, yet walkers are still being paid between $11-17 for a walk. The only way to actually make decent money is to wait for a ā€œbonusā€ to be added to the walk price, if no one has accepted as it gets closer to the walk start time. Bonuses are $1-2, added approx. every hour, but rarely exceed $10 before someone accepts the walk.
Of course, it’s always been a gamble to wait for added bonuses, but even more so now that bonuses seem to be few and far between. And since the beginning of 2024, fewer walks are available in my location than ever before, so most walkers will take whatever they can get as soon as something is listed.
I haven’t seen many of my favourite dogs for some time now, which could support my theory that Spot has made walks more expensive to owners. It’s a shame, really.

Great Company and Walkers

I’m so pleased with the walkers through Spot. It’s great to have the peace of mind that my fur baby is in great hands, with dog lovers while out walking. I really appreciate that they carry GPS and the walkers also take photos/videos. All the walkers that I have used have been incredible.

Logged out of my Walker account

Not sure how to get back in for my walks today. There’s no specific button for walkers to log back in. Help?
