Unusable
Spent 20 minutes trying to add a Db at the bottom of treble clef. Finally gave up.
Unbearable
I can’t think of an app I dislike more. Cannot control the number of bars per line on the app’s printout (why not, folks?). Cannot disable most of the annoying presets (why not?). When you ask why, they answer that this isn’t a professional app so you shouldn’t expect more control. Handwriting recognition implies less automation or the option to suspend automation. Not so. And for it to register your pencil strokes you have to draw just so, otherwise it can’t recognize. Circles, dots, lines, stems… no can do. A handwritten quarter rest or eighth or sixteenth rest is way beyond its capacity to recognize. Really? In 2026? For sharps and flats you have to go through insane protocols and when you finally get what you want it keeps switching accidentals on you. More like it was a high school app-making project from 20 years ago than anything that deserves to have a price-tag attached to it. Add to this the exorbitant price and you are in the realm of not to be believed.

Great app for those left who like to compose music by hand.
Using StaffPad for years now. I works wonderfully. Sound libraries available are great for orchestral mock-ups. More information on further development would be greatly appreciated.

I really like this app a lot but it’s very very overdue for an update. 5 stars if you can update it.
Amazing. I Wish There was a New Update.
This is the greatest workflow for easy sketches and traditional scores. StaffPad’s brush stroke counting solution has been *the* solution to using a pen to do notation. Other writing notation apps like Notion’s have awful solutions where someone has to make musical notation somehow recognizable to the program. This is the frontier of notation software in my opinion.
For drawbacks, the need for an Apple Pen where third-party pens only work on the tutorial is annoying, but not impossible. There’s capability for traditional, common scores, but then not much yet for contemporary scores with graphic notation without other programs like photoshop or so.
I love this app and use it every day. I hope that there’s room for more updates but there hasn’t been anything in two years now. I recommend it in its current state to anybody needing *the* quickest notation software. Super easy to pick up as well.

Amazing App – Please Add Persian Accidentals
StaffPad is an incredible application and, in my opinion, one of the best music notation apps available.
As a composer working with Persian music, I have one sincere feature request. Please consider adding support for the Persian accidentals Koron (quarter-flat) and Sori (quarter-sharp), including proper notation and playback.
I imagine this would be a relatively small addition for such a professional team, but it would make a huge difference for those of us who compose and perform Persian music.
As microtonal harmony and world music continue to gain wider recognition, adding this support would help preserve and empower an important musical tradition while making StaffPad even more versatile.
Thank you for creating such an outstanding application, and I sincerely hope you’ll consider adding this feature in a future update.

Buena pero puede mejorar
Hasta ahora la aplicación me ha gustado, sin embargo, el reconocimiento de escritura llega a ser algo complicado al poner silencios de octavos(corcheas) , alteraciones como sostenidos o bemoles , etc. Me gustaría que le siguieran dando mantenimiento como a musescore 4 porque sin duda staffpad es una gran herramienta y con muchísimo potencial , pero puede mejorar. Por favor no la abandonen

Is StaffPad Abonware - Yes?
While I am still able to use StaffPad things are starting to go wrong with it. With no updates in 2 years or replies from the apps support team I cannot in good conscience recommend it to new users looking to buy this app or its many instrument libraries. I have no idea why Muse Group purchased this app if they had no intention of developing or maintaining it. A 5 star app reduced to 2 stars. So sad! Especially as this App was once recognised with a prestigious Apple Design Award at WWDC20.
Update: 30 May 2026 Revised to 1 stars. Unfortunately there has been no response from the developers Muse Group. This is becoming a real issue with iPad apps in general. They aren’t cost effective to keep maintained. I understood that developers were obliged to release periodic updates or they would be removed from the Apple App Store. Less reason to update my iPad Pro I guess.

Nach Eingewöhnung in die vereinfachte Handschrift lassen sich Noten einigermaßen zuverlässig erfassen, dennoch bleibt Verbesserungspotenzial; hilfreich sind die gut gemachten Tutorials in der App sowie auf YouTube mit dem Autor.
• Viele Optionen und eine moderne, visuell gelungene Oberfläche.
• Für eine professionelle Anwendung noch nicht vollständig ausgereift – insgesamt aber nah dran.
• Problem Klavierfassung (aus pianistischer Sicht zentral, auch für Komponisten und Dirigenten): zu wenig Fokus auf pianistische Anforderungen. Komplexe, durchgehende Läufe über beide Hände hinweg (links–rechts–links etc.), die als zusammenhängende Linie notiert werden müssen, lassen sich nicht abbilden. Die Funktion ist im Programm nicht vorgesehen; stattdessen sind umständliche Workarounds nötig. Auch Arpeggien sind nicht handübergreifend darstellbar, sondern getrennt notiert und wiedergegeben – ein technisches Hindernis im Arbeitsprozess. Funktionen, die in anderen Notationsprogrammen (z. B. Dorico) seit Jahren selbstverständlich sind, fehlen hier.

L’app aveva un grande potenziale, diversi anni fa. Gli aggiornamenti fatti sono stati pochi, poco rilevanti alla vera e propria notazione e soprattutto fermi da diversi anni. Non ne vale più la pena.

Ok this app seemed very cool…. But! Basic, and not really great for serious composing. Would love a refund

the idea is excellent but the app does not work. I have to spend hours to write simple figures , the sound to musical sign does not work at all and if you did not realized the app is not updated from 2022

This is a great score writing software but it only lacks of one thing… Interest from the developer. The app hasn’t received an update since 2024. Bro. Wake up. It’s a great app. It’s frustrating that every time I write something I have to write it like 3 or 4 times more cause the app doesn’t recognize the symbol. If they could only fix that, this would be fire!

Frustrating and useless to me
The work with the stylus is awful. The program does not respond or does it wrong. The playback is quirky. A waste of money.
