Response from developer

Dear User, we hope you understand we have to answer in English! You are likely using an iPhone! Unfortunately, a bug crept into our latest update that is blocking several functions (menu items are overlapping with the musical notation; however, some functions remain available if you rotate your iPhone to landscape mode). We are already working on a solution and hope to release a new update very soon! For more information please contact us directly at app-user-support@henle.de

Needs work

The formatting is pretty, undeniable. The concert/performance mode is nice as well, and the customizations to spacing and sizing are nice. The issue is compatibility with writing and generally marking the scores. If you begin marking near one line and veer into the margin of another line, the mark will not record in the adjacent line. The eraser function is also extremely bad. Unless it’s just very unintuitive and I’m using it wrong, it feels so bad to try and erase marks. You’d expect to be able to scribble over marks with the eraser and make things disappear but 9/10 times that doesn’t happen. For an ecosystem that charges nearly as much for digital scores as they do for their very high quality physical copies, the software needs to be top tier. This software is not top-tier.

Response from developer

Dear User, thank you very much for your detailed review of our app! Some of the problems you mentioned stem from the unique graphical requirements that differentiate the Henle Library app from other comparable apps. Our app doesn't use entire pages of sheet music, but rather individual staves (otherwise the flexible layout wouldn't be possible), which is why annotations are currently limited to the staves. Additionally, the app uses a special graphic format, which is why writing and deleting work slightly differently. Especially when deleting, simply tapping directly on the symbol usually helps. However, we hope to release a major update for the iOS app this summer, which will include new features and an improved version of the annotation mode.

Response from developer

Dear Giselle, we hope you understand we have to answer in english! Thank you very much for your kind words and excellent rating (both on IOS and Android)!! The entire credit system is admittedly somewhat cumbersome, and it would be simpler if each score could be paid for directly. Unfortunately, in the App we are dependent on the requirements and conditions of Apple and Google. We therefore ask for your understanding! If our editions differ from those of other publishers, this is usually because G. Henle Verlag and the Henle Library app aim to offer an exact original text of the music ("Urtext"), without any additions or alterations. Since all our editions are meticulously researched and published, we can unfortunately only offer a limited number of new releases each year. We hope for your understanding in this matter as well!

Great Quality but Troublesome Print Layout

I’m a professional classical musician. The quality of the score is as always among the highest in the industry. The app is in general smooth to use despite the paying-for-credits thing is not as intuitive. However, there’s a major issue for me that’s almost a deal breaker: the multi-movement scores only produce single movements within a collection, and while it might be easier to locate, this approach completely ruin the printing layout. I dig everywhere and didn’t seem to find an option for “printing the whole piece”; instead, I was only able to print through individual movement. So, for instance, for Schumann’s kinderszenen, I’d have some pages with only one line of music. I seriously hope the developer can add that feature.

Response from developer

Dear Lilian, thank you so much for your detailed review and positive rating! The credit system is somewhat cumbersome, but unfortunately absolutely necessary. In the app, we want to offer our sheet music in the smallest possible units, so users only have to buy what they actually want. However, due to Apple's fixed price tiers, we couldn't offer very short pieces of music at a low price. The credit system makes this possible (our prices start at 2 credits)! The Henle Library app was primarily developed to allow musicians to play our sheet music directly from a digital device (PDF exports and printouts for this reason have to be of secondary importance). Therefore, for example, in "Kinderszenen", the individual pieces flow seamlessly together, allowing them to be played consecutively even though they are separate pieces. Unfortunately, transferring this functionality to print is very complex. We hope you understand that we cannot offer this feature for the time being! Several inconveniences

There are several inconveniences when checking sheet music on an iPad. The top and bottom are completely unusable due to other lists, and please fix the weird spaces that keep appearing between measures and lines. It's so inconvenient.

Response from developer
