Good - but …
Great Game, Great Service
The void in particular is a very cool chapter of the game. Definitely keeps the game interesting without spoiling it.
The customer service of this developer is incredible. I had run into a bug and was unable to open the game. I sent an email and they were incredibly responsive. They took my bug data, fixed the issue, and put out an update in less than 24 hours.
This is worth a play for sure.
Pro, Cons, Suggestions
Pros:
Clean UI
Feels Future Corporate
Doesn't need to he baby sat
Retro-future feel
Good sounds effects
Good art aesthetic
Strong ideas
Cons:
Player essentially cannot fail
Tutorial is a relatively minimalist
Routes feel one way
Pay off scales quickly
Conflict with rivals feels abstract
Suggestions:
Consider altering route design so routes do outgoing and return items. For example: Food to Titan from Earth, ship returns to Earth for food shipment and brings Helium or some such to Earth. This would add some realism.
Consider scaling back how fast routes scale income. Right now it's exponential and feels a bit too easy to build a freight empire.
Change how sabotage, interdict, monitor etc. operate. Right now you can select to monitor rival routes or interdict cargo etc. many times. It might be better to drop this to one chance to do one option, fail or succeed and change the fail rate. Right now the detected and retaliated against rate feels a bit high or I'm misunderstanding the mechanic.
Improve tutorial. Consider allowing players to outright fail building an efficient empire. Something like: "you've gone bankrupt, start over" maybe. I would consult the rest of the community on this one first though, as some people may prefer building over managing.
Response from developer
Thank you for the specifics, really appreciate it. Return-cargo routes, flattening the income curve, and reworking the rival-ops (monitor/interdict) so it's a real risk instead of a spammable action are all great ideas - I will work through them. In the latest update there is a hard fail-state later in the game (you can be betrayed and exiled with nothing, then have to claw it all back). Interestingly, there was already a whole arc where you go bankrupt, restart, and your original (named) company becomes your nemesis, I'll trace why that isn't occurring correctly. Thank you again for playing!
plans to support Chinese
Response from developer
Simplified Chinese isn't in yet but it is on the list! I'm also cutting down on-screen text density, which should help focus regardless of language.
Progress Reset
Response from developer
Really sorry for these crashes. In the current update I've hardened the crash recovery so a few launch errors can't wipe a healthy save, and Settings → Recover Previous Save can restore a save that got reset. If you still have the reset save, try Recover Previous Save. Hopefully works!
Great game!
Response from developer
Hey thanks for playing! Two fixes in the latest update (now live): the armada bug (Fleet → Strategy was dead unless you'd built a Military Complex, that's now fixed), a Getting Started checklist in Intel will help new players but agree I should add some help tips for the latter game too (I realize Industrial and Armada's in particular are a vague!), I'm on it
I am gripped
Response from developer
I should do that yes, I had been hesitant since (honestly) the game was slow to pick up, but I'm so glad people are enjoying it!
Fun game but broken
Just crashed to home 3x while on gen vi and then progress was gone and im back at the tutorial
Thought it was supposed to be fixed?
Response from developer
Really sorry about that! Two things: the new update hardens the crash recovery so a few launch errors can't wipe a healthy save, and Settings → Recover Previous Save can restore a save that got reset. I'm going to dig for the Gen-6 crash directly. If you still have the reset save, try Recover Previous Save, hopefully that works. You can also email me direct at hello@boxfort.co if there are any more issues.
Tutorial
Response from developer
Should be live in the update just published! You now launch your first ship in the first minute, I've also added a Getting Started checklist in Intel that walks you through each early step and jumps you straight to it. Hopefully helps
Fun but confusing at times
Response from developer
Thanks for playing! That was a bug: the Formations screen was hidden behind building a Military Complex, so Fleet → Strategy led nowhere if you hadn't built one yet. That's fixed in the latest update, Formations now opens and tells you exactly what to build to field an armada. Appreciate you sticking with it.
Slop-ily made
Response from developer
I've been shipping iOS apps for years, so this didn't come from nowhere. Fair enough on "generic" though, that's the part I'm already working on. The next update (3.0) gives each system its own economy and signature places so they stop feeling interchangeable, plus a performance pass. Point me at where it ran poorly and I'll chase it down.
Loving this game
Response from developer
Really glad you're enjoying it. More pictures of your people is good feedback. The ships just got rebuilt as 3D models in this update, and crew portraits are on my radar. It isn't online in a traditional sense (I wanted offline play) but it is a shared universe, v3.0 adds a working galaxy-wide faction war you feed into too. Thanks for the kind words.
Cool concept, I hope for improvements down the line
Response from developer
Thanks, and no need to soften the art note, I made a bad call trying to speed run it with AI. You'll see in 2.9 and especially 3.0 that I've swapped that all out for real human-made 3D ships and killed the portraits in favor of faction flags. The nav screen point is a good one, and I'll get it closer to the retro analog feel of the rest of the game. Appreciate you sticking with it.
Crashed and reset
Response from developer
Really sorry about this - I've requested an expedited review with Apple to get 3.0 out for the fix. A crash that wipes your progress is the worst thing that can happen, and I'm sorry it hit you at Gen VI. This new update adds save protection so your run is far better shielded if a crash strikes, plus stability fixes. If it ever happens again, reach me directly and I'll help recover what I can. Thanks for giving it a shot despite that.
Enjoyable, entirely confusing.
There's a good bit of depth but so many mechanics are poorly explained. A great amount of trial and error is required in order to figure things out. This starts at the very beginning when figuring out how to deal with pirates (solution, just get enough defense and later hire a chief to repair any damage you take right away--essentially make more money than you lose), to more exotic questions like "how does the source flora system work for my illicit operations?" As for that question the tutorial says tap on a planet and tap source flora, which I would be happy to do if I could find a planet with such an option. I'd love to change from the dominion to the kyrathri as the defense factor in this game feels utterly useless (there are 8 pirates always attacking my dominion shipping lines despite that literally being the only thing they're good at!) At least the kyrathri increase your profit. Of course everyone else picked dominion at the start thinking the defense ratings would be super helpful, so the dominion is winning the season competition for the shard ship, so even if I did change it I feel I'd be losing out. What a lose lose sensation.
Response from developer
Yeah when I re-reviewed after reading your feedback it was really obvious how unclear everything was, I leaned into the 'corporate bureaucracy' a bit too much. The weak tutorials and unexplained mechanics get a real fix in the new update (3.0), with clearer in-game guidance and a rewrite of the confusing text. On source flora, you need a surveyed planet where the flora lives first, and I'll make that path much clearer. On defense, you're right that pirates were swarming Dominion lanes. The update changes how each faction runs its space, so the Dominion's edge is now enforcement and lower piracy rather than raw defense ratings. And the faction season war finally moves with your play, so switching to the Kyrathi isn't a guaranteed loss anymore. Thank you for playing!
It’s fine
Response from developer
This was a tricky one to fix but I think I've got a much better balance now. The 3.0 update gives every system its own economy, so what you supply and where it goes now matters, and it adds late-game goals worth chasing. I'd genuinely like to know if it lands better for you. Thanks.
What
Response from developer
Thanks for the feedback! Just to clarify, nothing in the game is behind a paywall. The full game is completely free to play. If something felt locked or inaccessible, I’d love to know more so I can look into it - it might be a navigation or messaging issue. Feel free to reach out via App Support!
AI Art Looks Terrible
Response from developer
Really appreciate this, and genuinely glad the game concept clicked. You’re right that a lot of the art assets are AI generated; as a solo dev shipping a free game, it was the only way to get it out the door. That said, the art consistency is something I want to improve. Hope you’ll give it another shot down the line.
