High hopes, but…

This game has a lot of potential. Starflight was a beloved game by many with a huge fan following (me included). That said, the bar is pretty high for this game. First, it doesn’t seem to save progress, and leaves no obvious way to save. It forces you to sign in to begin with, but there’s no obvious reason why. If it’s supposed to auto save, it doesn’t work. Every time you open it you have to “hire” your crew. In the original you created the crew and could see what each species strengths and weaknesses were, here, you don’t see that. It has the right species, but no clue who should do what. You also cannot reassign crew (or at least not that I could see), so if you create an android communications officer, you can’t change him to science (his real strength). Navigating in a star system is VERY slow, like more than a minute to navigate to a planet. That needs to be much faster as it kills game play. These are the things I found early on, I unfortunately could not go farther into the game, it’s very laggy throughout, clicking buttons takes a long time to register, this on an M1 iPad Pro. I’ll absolutely be looking for this game to improve as I would love to play it through.

Response from developer

Good morning and thank you for your review! I agree, Starflight was a beloved game. I did want to take some time to respond to some of your feedback. First, under the Officers button on the bottom nav (you mentioned you were playing on an iPad), there is a Light Blue "Save" button which brings up an option to save in 1 of 4 slots assigned to your account. You are right there is no auto-save. Using the save spots would eliminate the need to hire the Crew over again. My recommendation would be to save right after completing your Starport setup. I did want to address a bug involving the travel in star systems -- you are absolutely correct. When we optimized that for mobile, with the touch controls, it created a bug. We have fixed that. We also optimized the fuel usage as animation renders on mobile change how fuel is consumed and can make it appear to happen too quickly. I was not able to recreate the lag on the buttons on my test iPad. But the rest of your feedback really helped. Thank you for spending your time looking at our game. I hope youll give it another look. Feel free to reach out to me directly at george@parkerit.net with feedback going forward if you would like. Have a great day!
