Startpage might be my number one browser for iOS. I would always switch between Startpage, and DuckDuckGo, but when DuckDuckGo go added their “free and ALWAYS optional AI”. I migrated to Startpage again. Then Startpage added vanishing AI. So I vanished, but I never got around to uninstalling the app. I had forgotten that I even had it on my phone until I saw an update for it. So I updated it. Opened the app to see if they turned on AI again, and I couldn’t find the settings. So I thought “great now it is baked in”. So I go back to the App Store to see change logs, and that’s when I saw it. Vanishing AI. It was its own entity. No longer apart of the browser. I was so excited that I asked the nice people over at Startpage if they took out AI,
And the reply verbatim:
“We use to offer StartpageAI as part of the iOS app. We removed that due to extremely low usage, as well as many of our users saying that they did not want AI tied in to our core search product. So to be crystal clear: AI is truly gone from the iOS browser app.”
So if you are looking for a no AI browser. Your search has ended.

Appreciated Alternative
So refreshing to have a non-ai alternative! As a college student it’s become increasingly harder to find anything credible because you have to wade through all of the ai nonsense first. Thank you for your work!

Privacy is important to me. Startpage works and the simplicity is perfect especially after the visual whiplash I got from Chrome.
Ad Blocker
Please add an ad blocker. There is no good reason to not have one. It’s a non-negotiable.
Almost as good as DDG
So far I really like this browser. It’s a great private browser that can compete with Duck Duck Go. It just needs the auto clear after 5 min of non use. With this feature, I’ll switch to this as my default.
App is broken
Startpage worked well once upon a time. But of late when I attempt to search it only shows an error msg: Bad URL, or some such.
It also won’t allow my accessing HELP.
I’d be happy to report “All’s well” if someone can cure this illness.

It’s not bad but it gets laggy sometimes and I don’t like how you can’t re open private browsing tabs so it’d be nice if that was fixed
Verifying
I have been using Startpage for years with Firefox and been very happy.
I do not allow cookies from sites unless really necessary. And I delete everything when quitting Firefox.
Recently Startpage will not do a search unless cookies are enabled in privacy.
If I attempt to do a search using Startpage without cookies all I see is a continual message saying “verifying”.

Absolutely a must if you value your security
Starpage is easy to use and has the extra security functions you need to not be bombarded by ads or algorithms every second.
You also have the added benefit of No AI so you search based on actual facts from well researched sources. You get real information which is unbiased and you’re saving water by not contributing to massive data centres.

Private Browser
Funny how they say it’s private when they collect usage data,diagnostics and device info.

Great browser
I have yet to find a more private and better web browser for iPhone than Startpage. It includes an actually private incognito mode, and a handy zap button. Would recommend
