Stasis - Spatial Sleep Noise

Stasis generates sound instead of playing it. Every sample is synthesized in real time, so there is no loop to hear and nothing repeats across an eight-hour night. THE PAD Each sound is a node on a pad. Drag it across to tilt its tone darker or brighter, up and down for its level, and pinch to make it thinner or fuller. Nodes are glass: they breathe with their own sound, tremble at a rate set by their color, and meld when they drift together. THE CRANK Noise color is just slope. Black and brown fall off toward the treble, white is flat, violet rises. Stasis puts the whole range on one continuous dial: turn it toward black for a sub-bass rumble, toward brown for a deep, low wash, toward white for a hiss, toward violet for a bright sheen, or park it anywhere in between. Add more than one node and each gets its own color. ENVIRONMENT Put any node in a place. Rain, running water, wind, crickets or birds, all generated and none recorded, so a night by the stream never repeats either. Four knobs shape each one: how much of it, where it sits, how restless it is, and how loud against the noise. Switch the noise off under it and the node is only its place. Motion still moves it. MUSIC An ambient synth under the noise. Pick a key and a feel, warm, bright, dark, open or bowl, and it cannot sound sour. One Alive slider sets how much it breathes, and chimes and harmonics arrive on their own, in tune with the chord. Underneath sits the whole instrument: free tuning from 400 to 480 Hz, pure or equal intervals, chords from a bare fifth to a minor ninth, pad and singing-bowl voices, slow chord cycles, vibrato and width. SPATIAL With headphones, the sound sits in the room rather than in your head. Sources spread around you as a field, and with AirPods head tracking on they stay where they are when you turn. Open the Space screen to place each source anywhere around you: every step away is quieter, wetter and further off, and you set the size of the room and how much it echoes. Spatial switches itself on for headphones and off for a speaker, until you choose. MOTION Any node can move on its own: breathe, roll in like waves, drift, pulse, or orbit the room, as slowly as two minutes a cycle. Its environment moves with it. OUTPUT Volume first, then where the sound goes. Choose Stereo, Spatial or Head-Tracked. Keep Stasis mixing under whatever else is playing, or turn mixing off and send it alone to a HomePod, an Apple TV or any AirPlay speaker, in one room or several, while the phone keeps its other sound to itself. Below that, a seven-band equalizer at the end of the chain shapes everything, noise, place and music alike, from a low shelf at 60 Hz to a high shelf at 12 kHz, with a low cut and a high cut for the whole mix. MADE FOR LISTENING ALONGSIDE Stasis mixes with whatever else is playing, so it layers under music, a podcast or a video instead of interrupting them. It keeps playing with the screen off, shows on the lock screen and in Control Center with the preset you loaded, and pauses from there, from AirPods or from a HomePod. Turn the phone sideways for the visualizer, and tap it to play or pause. FREE FOR THREE NIGHTS Your first twenty-four hours of listening are free, counted only while sound is playing. After that, keep Stasis month to month or unlock it once, for good.
