Stress Signals is a research app that passively collects sensor data to help researchers better understand how stress manifests in everyday life. If you've been invited to participate in a research study using this app, Stress Signals works quietly in the background using Apple's SensorKit framework. All data collection is governed by the study's IRB-approved protocol and requires your explicit permission. What This App Collects: With your authorization, Stress Signals may collect the following passive sensor data: Device Usage — Frequency and duration of device and app use, notification patterns, and charging behavior. Does not include names of specific apps or websites, or notification content. Motion (Accelerometer) — Physical movement and activity patterns throughout the day. Keyboard Metrics — Typing speed, accuracy, word count, and emoji usage. Does not include any typed content or specific words. Messages Activity — Number of messages sent and number of individuals messaged via the Messages app. Does not include message content or contact identities. Phone Call Patterns — Daily call duration, call frequency, and number of individuals called. Does not include audio content or contact identities. Media Events — Timestamps of images or videos displayed within messaging apps. Does not include any image or video content. Visits — Anonymized frequently visited locations, distance from home, and approximate arrival and departure times. Does not include GPS coordinates or identifying location information. Ambient Light — Environmental light levels throughout the day. ExpiWell is built to meet the rigorous standards of academic and clinical research. Privacy by Design Stress Signals collects only the data your researcher has been explicitly authorized to gather. No personally identifiable information is derived from sensor data. All data is encrypted in transit and stored securely. Sensor permissions are transparently requested and can be reviewed in your device Settings at any time. Participation Requirements This app is available by invitation only. You must be enrolled in an active research study through ExpiWell to use Stress Signals. Without a valid study enrollment, the app will not function.
