AUv3 Effects Bypass When Recording Starts
The effects work correctly while monitoring, but as soon as I press Record, the processing appears to be bypassed or reset and the audio starts recording dry.
If I open the FX chain while the recording is already running and reactivate the effect, it immediately starts working again and is recorded correctly from that point onward.
I was able to reproduce this several times using Apple AUReverb2, including with a very high wet mix to make the difference obvious. The audio input and routing are correct; the issue specifically happens when recording starts.
I also tested this on both an iPhone 14 Pro Max and an iPad 9th generation, and the exact same issue occurred on both devices.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Add and enable an AUv3 effect.
2. Confirm the effect is audible while monitoring.
3. Press Record.
4. The effect disappears and the recording is dry.
5. While still recording, reopen the FX chain and reactivate the effect.
6. The effect immediately returns and is recorded correctly.
It seems that starting a recording may be restarting the audio engine or route without properly re-enabling the AUv3 effects.
Honest Feedback for Developer + Feature Request
1) You can’t exit the mixer in horizontal orientation on iPhone unless you restart the app entirely. Normally orientation turning is how you exit, but when your phone is mounted somewhere, you can’t always change its orientation. Please fix this! 🙏
2) External file save locations. I was surprised to find I am unable to save recordings to external drives. Please add support for external drives! 🙏
3) AppleLog / uncompressed recording! Please add support for it 🙏
4) Additional frame rate options would be nice! Notably missing is 24fps.
extra info: I was able to get my Arturia AudioFuse Studio interface hooked up to record my instruments + my mics. It merged the output file perfectly!
I hope to see this app receive continual updates- good luck devs!
Underrated app for AUV3 plugins
Response from developer
Thank you so much for the review! That's an awesome signal chain you've put together! It's great to hear the host is handling eight AUv3 plugins without any issues and that the built-in NAM app fits so well into your guitar rig. One of my main goals was to make it easy to build complete guitar setups on the iPad without compromising performance, so it's really rewarding to hear it's working well for you. Thanks again for your support, and happy playing!
Polished app, but work in progress
A steal!
I use NAM files for my live electric tone and this seems to have less of a DSP spike than NAM XT and Gigfast light when switching NAM files. Both great apps, but I have a stacked AUM project and a fairly cheap iPad. I can’t recommend this app enough!
Response from developer
Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm really glad it's working well for your live setup. Keeping DSP usage low and making model switching as smooth as possible were major goals during development, so it's great to hear that it's making a difference, especially in a large AUM project on a more affordable iPad. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and recommend the app. Feedback like this motivates me to keep improving it. Thanks again!
