Mood Readers Rejoice! And if your memory isn’t what it used to be

Several times I have started a behemoth of a book and paused partway through- only to unpause over a year later without realizing how time had flown. In those cases, SuperSummary had been tremendous! It saves me many hours that I would (maybe) spend re-reading but also allows me to finish books I would otherwise just DNF! Even if you enjoyed a book, it’s a tough pill to swallow to spend hours just refreshing your memory.

Thorough summaries

I run a few book clubs as a librarian. And sometimes I don’t have time to read as in-depth as I would like. This is where SuperSummary comes in; it allows me to really understand a book, analyze, create my own discussion, questions, and character analysis without having to spend hours upon hours on this singular task. And if I don’t have time to finish a book, I look it up on SuperSummary so I can still lead the discussion with confidence.

Not so easy to use. I had problems in the beginning, then things improved, now the app isn’t working

Super Summary is not super smooth to use.

Great value

This is the best bang for your buck summary site. My only issue is sometimes the chapter summary would give away the ending before the ending. I expect spoilers but I don’t expect it to tell me before it happens. I’m not sure why an early chapter would tell you what happens at the end.

Gives Away Endings

With 700 pages still to read, in Anna Karenina’s part 1 analysis, they give the ending away and instantly destroyed a lot of the fun I had reading the book. I no longer trust your app. I am finished with you.

Excellent

This app is really great for book club discussions. Good questions and even good audio versions of background material.

Response from developer

Thank you! We appreciate your positive review. Thanks for using SuperSummary!

Sensational

In a moment where I didn’t feel like I wouldn’t get my assignment done. This beautiful app came in and I recommend everybody download it and pay the subscription is worth it.

Subscription

I’m so tired of every app requiring a subscription. I’m not paying money when i can just look up info on Google for free.

Doesn’t keep your place

If you’re listening to a summary but swap to another app for even a minute Super Summary loses your place. Also summaries are chunked in huge sections (you can’t just listen to one chapter summary, so if you just want to recap chapter 7 for example, you have to scroll through 10 chapters of audio summaries searching for what you want).

Difficult to cancel account

Took several emails to Customer service to cancel my account. Decent summaries but would have like more detail.
Do not recommend.

Decent

I found this after deciding to read Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’. I needed help since I have processing and comprehension issues, especially reading old language like this. The app has been helpful, but something that grinds my gears is when I exit the app, then when I return, it has exited out of where I was when I left the app. This is a huge pet peeve of mine, whether in this app or other apps. If I wanted to leave where I am currently, I would leave. The chapter summaries have been helpful, especially clarifying things that are confusing with the old language and some dialects of some peripheral characters, but which are germane to the story.

Also, an integrated dictionary would be helpful so one does not have to switch between this app and another one.

Minor things. I still recommend the app as it’s got more things going for it than not.

Great Content - Amature Audio Recordings

I use this app as a companion to the notes I take and highlights I make on books I’m reading or have read. It’s a great app; however, the audio versions of the guides are poorly done in many instances with very many distractions in varying audio levels, audio clipping, and splicing issues when editing the files. Listen to the Red Rising audio for examples of this. A bit too “amateur” for how well everything else is done on this app.

Loaded questions

I spent about 10 mins in this website before it was obvious the questions are heavily loaded. The way the generated questions are asked removed the possibility of kids thinking for themselves by already embedding moral undertones. For example, in Amos Fortune Free Man, instead of recognizing the time period in which the book was written AND the main character’s own viewpoint, the questions not-so-subtly accuse the author of racism and sexism. However wrong slavery was and is (and it is), it can’t be denied that Amos Fortune’s experience was not 100% terrible, and in fact HE saw it as the hand of God in writing his own story. He maintained the outlook that there was a hand of providence over all of his life, and that is overlooked by the way some of the summaries and questions are posed.

Horrible do not recommend

Super summary apparently needs you to pay $36 a month to see some stuff about a book when you could literally look anywhere else gor free. DO NOT RECOMMEND

Wonderful resource

I belong to a book club and often ot selects a book that I have read many months before. SuperSummarygives a wonderful plot review and great insights that refresh my memory. It’s an invaluable resource.

Response from developer

That’s wonderful to hear. We’re so glad our resources are making it easier for you to jump back into book club discussions without having to reread the entire book. Thanks for using SuperSummary!

Not so easy to use

Super Summary is not super smooth to use.

A goldmine of content.

SuperSummary is a goldmine of study guides for such a large library of books. I tend to focus on classics in both literature and philosophy but I’ve been surprised to find more recent fiction and non-fiction books as well which makes this service that much more valuable. I have to emphasize that the subscription fee is far more economical than services that offer less content such as Blinkist which charges an arm and a leg for mere summaries of books that last no more than 33 mins (my personal experience) at the most whereas the shorter study guides with SuperSummary are no less than 1 hour (that I’ve come across so far at least) with an average of 2 hours. SuperSummary is an incredible service that I am so thankful to have found.

The App Keeps Glitching

After spending $36 for the app, I expect it to work. It keeps wanting me to sign-up for the app. When I go to load a summary, it locks up. I’ve deleted and redownloaded the app but still having issues.
