Swim GURU by Swim Smooth User Reviews

Amazing programming

Have been using for years and have become such a better swimmer. Have used for Ironman and distance swimming events.

Very interesting app for serious swimmers

What’s working well:

-I had a coached session, which confirmed the accuracy of Swim Guru’s output.

For one session, my left arm was consistently entering the water first — and the app picked that up. The watch was on my left wrist, so understandably, the data shown was limited to that arm.
- On day two, I moved the watch to my right wrist and updated the settings accordingly. This time, the app displayed data for both arms. It’s still unclear how it estimates arm position for the non-watch side, but the readout was informative.

-The included images and videos are a great touch — there’s a wealth of material here on stroke mechanics, technique, and training approach. I’ve only scratched the surface, but what I’ve seen so far is helpful.

-The first swim’s analysis matched what my coach observed poolside, particularly around the effect of a thumb-first hand entry. That correlation builds confidence in the tool.

-Kick and drill sets are tracked well — and like Apple’s own app, this is handled quite accurately. Over a 3,200m session, the discrepancy was just 25m — effectively one length.

What could be improved:

Heart rate zones would benefit from clearer colour coding — red for high intensity, through to blue for recovery — following standard conventions.

Feature suggestions:

It would be a big step forward to offer more in-pool, real-time performance metrics on the watch itself. These are still missing in Apple’s own app, so Swim Guru has an opportunity to stand out. Useful fields could include:

1. Pace per 100m for the last interval (rather than session average)
2. Time and distance of the last interval
3. Turnaround time for repeat-on sets
4. Rest time tracking between intervals
5. Maximum heart rate for the session

Overall
A promising start — and with a few added features, it could become a truly indispensable tool for swimmers. Keep up the good work.

Love it

This app is one of the best swim technique apps I’ve ever used. I pair this app with my Garmin Connect app the two sync flawlessly. I have to say I am impressed. 😁

All round best swim app

A great tool for tracking each swim, 6 different stroke analytics, training plans to improve CSS times and staying motivated throughout the year.

Fantastic

Great app, really well thought out with an extensive library of drills and workouts. Easy to create a training plan for any length/ schedule. Really impressed that this is free

Brilliant

Just started using this Excellent app! Highly recommend it.
Just one suggestion though. Need to include a complication for Apple Watch for easy access.

Pouco tempo para avaliar

O App parece ser bom, mas deram apenas uma semana para testar. É muito pouco tempo para ver resultados de treinos propostos.

Compatibility

Since one of the best swim watches is a Garmin Swim 2 with GPS it would be awesome if this app worked with a watch specifically for swimming. What’s good about the G Swim 2 is that it tracks rest periods automatically and more accurately and you can interact with it without purging water. The Apple Watch interface can’t be used unless you purge the water and it doesn’t track rests between sets. I’ve tried swimsmooth with my apple watch and it works fairly well. But if I get the Garmin, I’ll be wearing both if I use swimsmooth. Can you make compatibility work with a Garmin?

Good app

This is a very good app. While not every data point is meticulously precise, it gives you solid information about the quality of your stroke technique and effort. Best on the market as far as I can tell. The developers should be proud!! Nonetheless, I do hope there are updates coming to further improvement accuracy of information. Would love to see what more these developers can do as tech improves.

unglaublich

ich benutze die app auf der apple watch se. die bahnen werden viel besser gezählt als bei der apple app, und die "debug" visualisierungen sind der hammer!

in dieser app steckt richtiges robotik-know-how drin, hier waren profis am werk!

Great combo of training plans and lessons

This has a huge depth of training videos matched to your drill and plan which I’ve found fantastic. This app is also unique that is scaled the swim difficulty by the time completed. My Garmin sync was great.

Stunning swim details

The level of swim analysis using watch data is unmatched and superior to any other swim app I’ve tried. My only gripe with it is that’s it’s slow to use the app. But still gets 5 stars for the awesome analysis.

Super app but…

I use this app for open water swim for two years now and it is a very useful app for tracking my swimming session
With very few bugs until yesterday and today where my sessions were not recorded well
There is no update for this app and I would like some support because this was my favorite app for swimming

Cool, but need some work

The insights are crazy! By far the most incredible feature, but there are some things they could improve: first, it’s crazy slow. Maybe they could store some things locally or move to a faster service provider because each api call takes several seconds to complete. Second, the login is terrible. It loses the JWT token all the time, and it’s the only app I have that doesn’t integrate well with the iPhone password manager. I hope they will keep improving it; there is a lot of potential :)

Good feedback, unique features, lots of bugs

The swim insights is really cool and works well. It would be great to see more info on the position of my catch at different parts of my pull.

A missing feature would be to download swim sets onto my watch, similar to other swim watch apps.

Downside is that this app has a lot of bugs, the most annoying is it frequently signs me out of the app.

Probably the best app for serious swimmers.

If you have an Apple Watch and are serious about your swimming, I thoroughly recommend investing in this app. Designed for open water and triathlon swimmers it offers customised training plans and uses the watch to give you suggestions to improve your stroke. My only real criticism is the interface on the watch. When I’m swimming in the pool, the only thing I really care about is the distance. The rest I look at when I download the data. Currently the distance is green writing on a black background - Please make it much more prominent and bigger.

Update: Just found out there is no way to edit you session data. Just did an OpenWater Swim and forgot to stop the watch when I got out. I now have an 8k swim at sprint pace as it recorded the car journey home! I can’t delete it in the app. I don’t know why the session kept recording when it is registering no stroke data.

Motivating if you like data

I really like this app. It has a few quirks but overall I get a lot of useful feedback from it. I swim on my own so without a coach and can’t see what I might be doing wrong. But my watch and this app can. Since using it I have corrected crossing my center line, improved catch, better rotation, and most exiting- dropped times.

Some quirks. It always misses the 25 of my first warmup, whether I swim a 50, 100, or 200. It will always read 25 less. Ok, fine.

If you do a plan the events you can select are limited and in meters. I swim yards and the training plan will be in yards but the event is only available to select as meters.

On the progress page you do have to pull it down so it refreshes and reflects your most recent swim.

The app seems to haphazardly record personal bests. These past two swims I have had PBs per the swim lot breakout but the PBs are not reflected in the PB lists. Not sure why. I tried to refresh and delete/reinstall but the PB records didn’t update.

I wish I could add my own photo for the swims recorded. The one photo there is nice but not for every single swim. Not really a quirk but a wish item for a future update.

Minor quirks but overall a really help app!

Le daría 10.

Solo he tenido un par de problemas al querer abrir el app. Es una molestia por que no puedo ver mis resultados. Fuera de eso todo muy bien. Me ha ayudado a corregir mi brazada

Sync issues

Quite a unique and useful app.
I like the CSS training approach and how the app can calculate your personal tempo timer settings.
The stroke analysis is cool too. Although seems inaccurate for hand entry angle.

The most infuriating aspect is syncing. The app can take anywhere from 1 minute to 24h+ to show your swim. Even though the workout is immediately visible in the native IOS health and workout apps. Not sure if others have had this issue and if there is a way to force the sync …. Hope there is a fix.

SLOW interface

Hi! Very nice app and functionality. I wish you had an option to send a training to the garmin connect, but my ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ is not because of that.

The app is slow, I mean really slooooow. And since I tried different connection points over world, I suggest there is something bad with your backend… Or maybe not, then it is just me so unlucky 😁
