Completely random

I have been looking for a reliable swimming app for the Apple Watch for a while and I was hopeful with this one, but unfortunately it is not that good. In a 5x200m free style test work out, not a single one of the sets was reported properly. While distances were accounted for (except first set, which showed 175m), the stroke identified were almost all wrong (backstroke) and the timing was way off (3:30 average pace was reported anywhere between 3:45 and 7:00/100m!!). Very disappointing.

Promising work in progress

Pro’s. Can see pace (min:sec/100) live after doing a set. I like this.

Cons:
- shows open water swim when actually a pool swim.
- cadence is nice but it’s based on distance. Cadence or number of strokes per length is needed for pool swimmers.
- not sure if it calculates distance correctly as meters shown is different from actual distance based on pool lengths.
- for some reason impacts VO2 max readings. In Apple Health. Shows me as dead with VO2 max of 0 and brought all VO2 max averages down as a result. This took me a while to figure out.

Not really usable until the above are fixed.

A good start

It seems to accurately identify my strokes and laps. The timings seem correct. (The last app I used couldn’t recognize my backstroke!!?) The downside is, there’s no accompanying phone app, and your swim details aren’t available for long after your swim. So unless you’re going to stand on the edge of the pool, reviewing your stats, dripping, it’s all pretty useless. By the time I’m out of the shower and in the car, it’s moved on to recovery, and I can’t get back to my swim details. I really hope this gets fixed soon. Otherwise… I’ll need to find another app.
