Gets the job done
I didn’t expect a perfect app from a small company making garage door smart home mods, especially since the app isn’t really necessary after you add it to HomeKit. I found the setup process pretty straightforward except learning was interrupted by the need for a firmware update. I might suggest a clearer setup flow that checks for a firmware update before beginning. In addition some documents for things like the vehicle sensors don’t match the latest UX.

Not HomeKit compatible
I’ve configured 20+ HomeKit compatible smart devices in my home. This company false advertises that they are HomeKit compatible. Do not buy this product.
What happened?
This app used to work so well, and was so convenient. Auto open no longer works. App can’t diagnose or update firmware of sensors. What used to be slick and useful is now garbage.
Not very polished
The app no longer allows me to add a vehicle. I scan my bluetooth sensor and the app finds it and I see the device name in the first text box. But then when I click “Save Vehicle”, it asks me to scan for a device.
Don't waste your money
After the recent update the app is always signed out and location triggers rarely ever work. App is basically useless at this point.
Annoyed
The app used to work fine. Then, you decided to push an update that made the app more complicated and broke auto-close. Why?
Update may changes to my setting
Without our being aware of it, the settings were changed to automatically close our garage door if it has been open for 30 minutes. Today when I had my hatch back to my vehicle open, the door closed catching my hatchback. Now I have scratches in my vehicle which will have to be repaired. We’ve gone in an and changed the settings, but this should never have defaulted to close within 30 minutes. It is not unusual for us to leave the garage door open as we do things in and out of the garage.

Totally unreliable
After years of fairly good reliability, the team made a big update to the app in Aug 2025 that seems to basically ruined it. I was signed out after installing it, which is mildly annoying, but the real trouble started after that. The iOS widgets I rely on daily no longer work. Yet worse is being frequently signed out of the app and having to re-authenticate to access my doors. Most recently when I was signed out for the umpteenth time both of my garage doors were deleted from the app. This simply isn’t worth it. The product used to be passably reliable, but is now worthless. Super frustrating to have to hunt down a hide-a-key to get into my house after relying on Tailwind for years. No longer.

Great Product. Had it Since the Beginning
Huge fan of Tailwind. I’ve had it for years and outside of maybe 3-4 outages total, it’s been bulletproof. App is great, most importantly it integrates perfectly with Home Assistant. This has been a daily used app for years and years and hasn’t let me down yet
Well designed app
This app to control the tailwind garage door system works far better than its competitors. No issues either on WiFi or while mobile. Excellent customer support as well.
Great Product
The best smart device I own!
Very buggy
Got the hardware with the adaptor for my Chamberlain (2 doors). Buggy as hell, half the time, I’m unable to close the door, the door shows as “lockout”. When clicking on a door in the UI, it happens frequently that it’s the other door that opens/closes
Good idea on paper, poor execution

Mostly Great
I picked this up for automating my garage door. It works well. No issues with the door opening/closing as we approach or leave our driveway. As a system administrator by day and general programmer for funsies, I found this app and execution of to be really well planned. My only complaint would be the massive battery drain for IOS users due to “always on” location services, but like you, I was mostly aware of this prior to purchase. I would recommend this to a friend that didn’t want a monthly subscription

Tailwind rocks!
We have 2 Chamberlain garage door openers with the MyQ app that I installed in April, 2024. But trying to get any consistent response to open them with the remote when I arrive home was an exercise in futility. Once in a while, but rarely, it would start opening it from the end of the 50 foot long driveway, but rarely. Most of the time I had to be right next to the door for it to work. Very irritating, I might as well just get out of the car to open it like I had to do before I installed the openers. I know, straighten the antenna wire, install special LED light bulbs, but I had already done all of the things you read about on all the YouTube videos, and nothing made it work any better. Plus the MyQ app was very limited, like it only does one thing, open or close, that’s it, no other options.
So I started researching aftermarket controllers, and looked at quite a few that give you a lot more features. And out of them all, Tailwind stood out, a lot of features, many options, especially ability to connect with Apple’s HomeKit. Yes, it’s slightly more expensive than some others, but well, well, worth it! And perhaps best of all, customer service! Scott Riesebosch, the owner, is awesome! You have a question, submit a ticket, and he gets right back with an answer. And his website is very comprehensive, very complete, especially the help and support area of the site. Yes, it has a Community area too, but unlike many other websites that just end there, Scott is personally involved in helping with any questions, almost all of which are already answered either in the very detailed manual, on the site, and on his YouTube channel.
So I bought and installed Tailwind for 2 garage doors, the needed adapter because I have the Chamberlain openers, and the needed sensor to place in our car that works with our iPhones. Then I went into the app and adjusted all of the multiple settings to suit our needs, loaded the app and settings on my wife’s iPhone, and we were in business. And now every time we come home the garage door is automatically opening as we arrive, and we can just drive right in without a pause. Same thing when we leave, it automatically closes without us having to do it, so we don’t worry if we forgot to close it, it just does it all by itself. And there are numerous other features, night mode, partial open, scheduled open or close, stay open, and on and on. Absolutely love Tailwind!

Annoyed but still 5 stars
This is an awesome product but made complicated. I’m guessing it started simple but the requests started coming in for features.
At the basics all we need is a transmitter (which they sell) and a receiver with a button to pair them. Then when the car with the transmitter approaches the garage door opens. As far as security goes this would be no different than someone gaining access to the garage door clicker in the car which is usually clearly visible or within reach of the driver in a compartment so easy to find.
For those who want security the option to use the app.
Each driver needs to install the app. If you are on iOS (this is an Apple App review) you purchase a transmitter that connects to the phone using Bluetooth and added to the “garage” in the app as a “vehicle”. So either one person installs the app and invites the other driver or use the same credentials on both phones which is what I ended up doing since I was not at home to debug why the garage door wasn’t opening for my wife.

Excellent Replacement for MyQ
After Chamberlain decided to start making life difficult for MyQ users, I looked for a new solution for integrating my garage doors into HomeKit and decided to go with Tailwind and I’m glad I did. Installation for two doors took a bit but everything is running beautifully and I couldn’t be more pleased with the result.

Unreliable, great in theory.
I’ve had this for years, I thought the concept was great, but the app has been a beating. It’s a “will it work?” every time we pull up. If I’m in range of my wifi, it’s easier to use Apple home to open it versus the Tailwind app.
When it works…
Pretty cool in concept. When it works. Sadly, even though they did a great job with YouTube, tutorials explaining how to set it up and get everything working, they really dropped the ball on the software development experience, which is unfortunately all to common. The app itself is extremely buggy. Sometimes the garage door shows up sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes my vehicle shows up in the vehicle list (using the vehicle sensor), sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes the garage door just shows as “null”. They show you notifications about having to turn off and on the sensor when you first set it up even though you have already had it set up (or they are showing either incorrect text, we’re lazy or not properly validating that this is the first setup before showing the message).

Battery drain
Horrible battery drain. Even at home all day it takes 50% of my battery usage.
Awesome App & Product
When I went to automate my garage door I did a lot of digging. I came across Tailwind the system itself was easy to install which is a bonus. The app is unbelievable great the auto open works perfectly. I highly recommend the Tailwind system.
