Great tool for Film/TV work and ADHD

As someone working in film and TV (also with ADHD), I’ve found this app extremely useful either as a listen-only option or as a read-along way to help me focus. While I’ve had a few frustrations with past versions of the app draining my battery or overheating my phone, the newest updates seem to have remedied these issues. The team is also very helpful and communicative with issues. Recommend. The new Voice+ options also have some great options if you need more than just a typical synthesized voice read.

Terrible

The voices on this app are AWFUL, every single one of them. They are all super computerized and none of them sound natural. Under settings, it says by going Premium you get better, more natural sounding voices...you don't. It's the exact same voices. And they are all bad. Like....very bad.

Response from developer

I'm so sorry to hear that. It sounds like Talking Scripts wasn’t delivering what you were hoping for, and that is frustrating. We recently launched our new Voices+ voices, which are a significant upgrade from our original voices Apple voices, but we know that voice quality is incredibly subjective and not everyone will have the same reaction to them. That said, the Premium tiers should absolutely sound different from the standard voices. If you’re hearing exactly the same voices after upgrading, there may be an issue with your account or the voice settings. We’re a small team and we’re working hard to improve the voices with every release. If you’d be willing to contact us at contact@talkingscripts.com, we’d love to investigate what happened and hear more about your experience. Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. – Stefan, Founder

Good Concept, Not So Great Execution

I love the idea of having my script read to me but the voices aren’t that great in my opinion 😅 Also, sometimes the app struggles with changing voices when you do the recast 🤔 Lately I cannot recast the voice so I am stuck with the default voice even after upgrading to premium

Simple to use

Very easy to use, good voice options.

Excellent product for the price

I travel frequently and Iisten to my scripts as I drive. I appreciate the work put in to help writers hear their work at an affordable price if not free. I look forward to updates. Nice work!

FAQ

What does the Talking Scripts app do?

Talking Scripts is an iOS application designed to read film and TV PDF scripts aloud. It acts as a virtual partner, allowing users to run lines, learn dialogue, and listen to scripts in an immersive way, even in remote locations.

How does the line learning feature work for actors?

The line learning feature allows actors to select any character in the script. The app intelligently calculates the timing for the actor to read their lines, providing a realistic table read experience. This helps actors practice and memorize their dialogue effectively.

What is the cost of using Talking Scripts?

Can I customize the voices in the app?

Yes, you can customize the pitch and speed of the voices to your preference. The app automatically assigns masculine and feminine voices to characters, but you can change and customize these per script for a unique reading experience.

What kind of scripts can I use with this app?

The app is designed to read film and TV PDF scripts. It intelligently ignores elements like page numbers, headers, footers, watermarks, and 'continued' notations, focusing solely on the dialogue and script content.
