No real customer support

I canceled my 14-day TalkPal AI trial after 10 days because I wasn’t using it as much as other tools for learning Italian. The app was okay, but its responses felt generic and didn’t adapt well to how I learn.

Despite canceling before the trial ended, I was charged $89.99. I contacted support and provided a screenshot of the charge, but the replies kept saying they couldn’t find a charge associated with my email address. I have yet to receive an explanation or a refund.

I would have rated the app itself two stars. The billing issue and lack of helpful support bring my overall rating to one star.

Better apps

I thought this would be an amazing app because it actually has European Portuguese but I was wrong. You only get 10 minutes of learning every day. Instead of being helpful, it only spoke to me in Portuguese and its really hard to have a conversation that doesn’t feel like talking to an AI. I wanted an app that I can learn what I want but I guess I will have to keep looking.

Very Good

I recommend it for the languages I’m using it for, but with one strong caveat: for whatever reason, the app is not geared towards people who are just learning a new language. It seems to be more for people who are familiar with the language (both in written and spoken forms) and don’t need explanations on some of the finer points of why and when to use certain things. That said, the app is excellent. It’s the 4-5 different language-learning app I’ve used. None of the previous have worked as well as Talkpal in the sense that I’m building my speaking and listening skills congruently.

Too inauthentic

The app is good but should really focus more on actual conversations someone would have. The sentence mode is way too complex and are things that people would never say in conversations same with the vocabulary.

Mit Lernerfolg

Das KI Programm ist gut mit vielen verschiedenen Möglichkeiten zu lernen.
Sehr gut ist dass man Gespräche führen kann und so in die Sprache finden kann.
Ein Stern Abzug da viele Sätze unvollständig aufgeführt werden und erst in der nächsten Station komplett sind.(das man sicher beheben kann)
Ansonsten ist die App sehr vielseitig gestaltet es wird einem nicht langweilig beim lernen.
Schön wäre noch Kurzgeschichten die auch vorgelesen werden.

Please loosen up the restrictions

I enjoy this but I would like to learn with the courses, as they are locked by premium, I’d want them to be unlocked and have less restrictions from premium.

Best Language App I have found

Good investment. Biggest problem is me not using it enough. I have used many language apps from Pimsleur to Babbel. This one is really great. AI is amazing. It might obviate the need for learning, however I enjoy language.

Call mode is unstable

Call mode has recently been very unstable even on a very fast 1GB/s connection. Takes forever to connect and then “grade” your dialogue. Won’t be coming back until it is fixed.
