This app used to be very helpful and well moderated. Now , not only have moderators become lax they have also become complicit in YouTube view/subscription bot accounts and protect them on the app. It’s getting harder and harder to find actual people to connect with on this app that don’t want to “go to telegram because I don’t use this app often” and then spam you with YouTube scams

This application could have been awesome but unfortunately they stop all progression behind paywalls. You can’t put up more than one language you can’t see certain people they won’t let you talk to them or translate a lot without you paying but I find that I can muddle through in an effective manner. However the first person to allow free talk is going to just straight put them out of businesss. Finally as a native speaker of a language I shouldn’t have to certify it. Sadly they don’t do anything on here for you that you can’t do for yourself relatively cheap and or free . Also no one is interested in teaching you the language and they are now delaying your applications without reason.

Impossible to change the learning language without paying. It’s stupid. And you could have made an exception for your early users.

Excessive battery consumption. Excessive consumption of the processor. Slowing down the program after sending a few messages.

I really enjoy this app, but in the last month it has become very, very laggy.
Often messages take a very long time to go through and be ‘sent’. Often messages don’t even send until I come back to the app a week later. It is frustrating trying to connect with my friends and not even knowing if they have gotten the message.

can’t even log in. it just tells me to use facebook and then when i sign in with facebook it tells me to sign in with facebook again. great job guys!
Too glitchy
I do like options to transcribe and to translate, and the majority of the people I meet here are respectful and trying to learn. However, the app is SO glitchy. It’s slow, lags behind, I have to reopen and refresh convos constantly to get all my messages, the features I do like don’t even work correctly half the time - it makes for a frustrating experience and I’m thinking of deleting it and trying something else.

Its a no for me
Okay this is only getting two stars I had one positive and one negative experience on this app. So I randomly signed up for this app to practice my French better. I’m not fluent but 80% ish and although it is nice to talk to different types of people of the world. It’s just mostly men who flood your dms and act like this is a dating app. I didn’t really like that bc I don’t use this app to date. The only positive side tho is that I met this friend named Loan. She is really nice and very sweet and decided to only take her with me and chat thru Instagram before deleting my account. So yes personally I wouldn’t download this ever again. I don’t want be hit on by a bunch of creeps.

Way too many bugs with the app. And you have to pay for everything. Other apps allow you to voice call and video call for free but not this app. Don’t waste your time.

Wrongful Banned before even getting started
I signed up for this app, especially because ChatGPT referred it because I was in Panama from the United States and wanted to literally speak with someone and learn from an actual live person. Yes, I have several apps on my phone, but then I felt that it was easier to actually learn to have a conversation with the ongoing live person. However, I never even got a chance to get into the community and received an email stating wrongful use that there was a complaint about me how can you complain about me when I was having issues trying to even get in repeatedly into the community when I even sent the information to the email that I’m registered with I just now get another one saying we take our community safety, which I’m all for that, but I’ve never even got a chance to get into the community. No one’s called and reached out to me to say what I supposedly have done to be banned and I think this is piss poor business and I will be putting this on my YouTube page. 😞 I am a senior person who wanted just to connect with other people and broaden my conversation skills through this app yet I never even got past anything I had Wi-Fi problems. I had logging in problems, but the only thing I get is I did something that was unsafe. Tell me what I’ve done first of all don’t just kick me and ban me and I don’t even know what’s going on. I wish I could upload pictures because I would upload exactly what was said to me and not even the compassion to find out my point of view or any explanation which I think is a bunch of BS so yes, I’m angry because I’ve done nothing wrong but yet no one is telling me what I supposedly have done wrong for someone in the community, which I never even got to complain. That’s stupid.

I’ve been using Tandem for a long time, and it’s one of the best apps for meeting people from all over the world while improving language skills. I’ve made friends from many different countries, learned about new cultures, and had countless interesting conversations.
The community is generally friendly and respectful, and the language parties are a great way to practice speaking in a relaxed environment.
I would love to see even stronger moderation against scammers and fake profiles, but overall it’s an excellent platform. Highly recommended for anyone serious about learning languages and making international friends. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
