About
Turns any room into an interactive map of light and shadow.
Most light-meter apps show a single number wherever you're standing. Tanizaki adds spatial context: scan your room, capture a few readings from different spots, and it builds a heatmap showing where the light is relatively darker, brighter, warmer, or cooler - right in the space itself.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Scan the room. Move slowly so the app understands the space.
2. Capture a few readings as you walk to different positions.
3. Explore the heatmap. Switch between Brightness and Tone, read a plain-language summary, and save or share the result.
WHAT IT'S GOOD FOR
• Choosing where to put a desk, reading chair, or bed
• Comparing light near a window versus an interior wall
• Finding uneven or overly dark areas that could use a lamp
• Picking a spot with even light for filming, streaming, or photos
• Judging whether a shelf has the light a plant wants
• Capturing a before-and-after when you change bulbs, curtains, or furniture
NO LiDAR? NO PROBLEM
LiDAR-equipped iPhone and iPad get the most precise spatial mapping. Capable devices without a LiDAR Scanner run an approximate scan instead of being turned away. And the Photo Light check reads light from a single photo on any supported device — no AR required.
HONEST BY DESIGN
Tanizaki compares readings within the same scan. It is not a certified light meter and does not claim laboratory accuracy. Readings are estimates that can vary with camera direction, shadows, reflections, movement, and changing lights, so results are always framed as relative comparisons, never professional measurements. Darker isn't treated as worse; it's simply described.
PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
• No account, no sign-in, no ads.
• Scanning is processed entirely on your device.
• Camera frames, depth data, and room geometry are never uploaded.
• Saved scans stay on your device, and deleting one removes it.
• Nothing is shared until you choose to export it.
