The app uses ai a good enough reason to not use it

As I said, they use AI to find and make music it doesn’t support artists and directly goes against what this app says it is. The app is not free for listening to music and they don’t have any of the artists I want to listen to for good reason, because this app is AI slop and doesn’t actually support these artists it claims to have. do not download it

Disappointing

This app uses AI. And for an app that’s supposed to be uplifting and helping the small creators I can’t seem to find any of my favorite but I can easily find snoop dog? He was the first thing I saw when I opened the app, well not if you count the AI, this is so stupid, AI is one of the top things that harms small creators and takes chances away from them even if you told me that this app only used it for the search engine or for some select images why on earth would I believe you? You’re already blatantly putting it in front of my face without trying to hide it so I feel like any “small creator” is just some big label trying to make extra money. This app is just hollow claims and a cash grab. I wouldn’t be surprised if this app was just generated by an AI on a random afternoon. Don’t get this app get an mp3 like me.

This is Tim Quirk, the guy in charge of Tapedeck. We do use AI in search, and don't hide that fact, but that's the only place we do. And the reason for that is to help, not harm our artists: because we are a very new service that is still acquiring catalog, listeners are bound to get null results when they search for specific artists if we don't yet have a license with their label or distributor. In order to highlight what we DO have that a given listener might enjoy, we have built a search engine using an LLM that enables listeners to speak to the app the way you might to a friend, telling Tapedeck not just who they want to hear, but what kinds of music they want to hear. Our LLM helps the artists in our catalog get discovered even when they're not what a given user was actively looking for, and enables our listeners to find new music to enjoy. I'm a musician myself, and while I revile AI that's used to replace creators, I am in favor of AI that helps creators get found. You're certainly free to disagree, but I can guarantee you that we're not just some faceless tech company using AI thoughtlessly. Tapedeck is built by musicians and music fans FOR musicians and music fans, and we are very cautious and deliberate about how, where and why we use AI. Personally, I distrust any music service that claims they avoid all AI, because I have yet to find any reliable way of detecting when a given track has been created by AI. We don't seek such "music" out and we don't promote it, but I only promise customers thigns I can genuinely guarantee.

Why?

I saw the advertisement and it was about giving the creativity and power back to the people who love music and the ARTIST!! Why use generative AI in a creative app?!? You can’t even opt out of using the AI! It’s extremely harmful to not only the artists you put on this app but to the whole world.

So far everything has sounded great. I love the concept of this platform regarding properly providing artists with compensation. The only thing I would like to know is how to upload my music to their catalog. I did email but still no answer. Thanks for creating a new alternative for us Indy artists.

Decent app, bad selection

The app itself isn’t awful, but their selection is. I understand that they are a new service and need to prove themselves before big names will attach themselves, but still on launch you should have at least a few big names rather than smaller artist no one has ever heard of nor are interested in listening to them. If they can get a better selection of artists then I think this app could be alright, but until then it’s practically useless to most people.

i mean it’s ok

like i said it’s fine but the lack of artists really makes me mad, i get the concept/idea and it’s amazing! i found you guys on instagram and i was really disappointed with the overall. But ive seen some other reviews and saw that you guys are adding new artists every day. it’s is great concept for children if you don’t want them on spotify and something that you know will help them. i still tried this out with spotify premium but i think if you added a lot more artists it would be just as good.

This is the challenge for any new music service. We're adding more labels and artists every day. But most distributors want to see your product live in the marketplace before they will agree to join. So you have to launch with a limited catalog in order to obtain a more complete one.
