About

How old are your ears? How sharp are your eyes? Find out in five minutes, with the headphones you already own, and keep every result honest about the gear it used. HEARING • Ear age: a tone climbs from 8 to 20 kHz; where it vanishes is your number. • Hearing check: six frequencies per ear, drawn as a threshold curve and explained in plain words. A practice beep checks left and right first, and silent catch trials keep the curve honest. • Words in noise: three spoken digits buried in noise. The answer is a ratio, not a level, so it holds up when you change headphones, and it is the check that matches "I hear fine, I just can't follow anyone in a busy room". • Tinnitus tone matcher: find the pitch of the ringing by comparing pairs of tones, and save it. VISION • Eye chart you can do on your own: hold the phone at arm's length and swipe the way the E opens, or prop it up and answer out loud from one metre. The front camera measures your distance and every letter is drawn at its true size for it. • Each eye is checked separately, with the gap between them shown. • Contrast, color plates (made for Tawny so that only color, not brightness, reveals the number, with "No number" as a real answer), an astigmatism dial and an Amsler grid that compares with your last map. HONEST ON ANY HEADPHONES Tawny runs on whatever you own and never refuses to start. Four Apple models have a reference profile, so results come out as an estimate in dB HL; every other pair is labelled relative. Every result carries its headphones and volume, and the ledger only compares like with like, so "results depend on your headphones" stops being a surprise and becomes a label. IT NOTICES WHEN A TEST GOES WRONG Four seconds of the microphone before a hearing check tells you whether the room is quiet enough; a room louder than the tones is what gets measured otherwise. While the test runs, Tawny watches the output: if your earbuds drop out, the volume moves or a call interrupts, it stops, says exactly what happened, and re-runs that frequency. Whatever the conditions were is written on the result, good or bad. RESULTS THAT PRINT LIKE AN AUDIOMETER Every result prints like an audiometer slip: the number, the headphones, the calibration and the volume, with a plain next step. Every hearing result carries its test conditions, and every result links to the sources behind it. Every check plots over time, within one set of gear at a time: a change of headphones is never drawn as a change in you. SOMETHING TO HAND OVER Export the whole ledger as a PDF for an audiologist or optometrist: the numbers, the gear, the room, and a method page at the back that says exactly how each one was produced and what it cannot mean. FOR THE WHOLE HOUSEHOLD Up to five profiles, one subscription. Test everyone on the same earbuds and compare. Six-month re-check reminders, per person. Save a calibrated audiogram to Apple Health with one tap, and only when you tap. No account. No ads. Nothing leaves your phone except anonymous usage counts. Tawny is a screening app, not a medical device. It does not diagnose anything; results are estimates. For a diagnosis, see an audiologist or an optometrist. Tawny Pro is an auto-renewing subscription (yearly with a free trial, or weekly). Payment is charged to your Apple Account; it renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends, in Settings › Subscriptions. What's New in Tawny Hearing Test & Eye Chart

1.2

October 27, 2026

Hark is now Tawny, rebuilt from the ground up. • A new look and a new icon. • The eye chart works on your own: hold the phone at arm's length and swipe, or prop it up and answer out loud. • Every vision check now tests each eye separately. • New color plates where only color, not brightness, gives the number away, and contrast measured properly on your screen. • Hearing check: a practice beep, a left/right check and safeguards against guessing. Tones now recover after calls and headphone changes. • Words in noise starts straight away; the tinnitus match compares pairs of tones. • Home shows your next step, and reminders work per person. • Everything you saved is still here.
