Good app for a student project, has some design flaws
I just needed a timer for my tea. A timer dedicated to this ONE thing, and nothing else. This app delivered. But it’s not without flaws.
The graphics are nice, and it’s easy to use. I drink black tea, so I brewed a cup, chose the black tea timer, and settled in. Hit the timer button, and read the nice bit at the bottom of the page about black tea history and that was nice.
Then I noticed there was an error in the temperature conversion between Fahrenheit and Celsius. Optimal temp for brewing black tea is boiling, which is listed as 100c and 180f. The boiling temperature of water in Fahrenheit is 212 degrees, not 180. Basic maths.
I wondered if the other pages about different teas had similar errors, so while my tea was brewing, I hopped back to the menu to check what it said about green tea. I got a pop up notice warning me that this has disabled the timer.
This is a design flaw that might have been resolved with a bit of user testing. I’m more likely to read about the other teas while actually using the timer. The fact that this disables the timer means I’m unlikely to read the other Fun Tea Facts. Kind of a bummer.
But you know, nice effort for a student designed app. It didn’t have any feedback, so I thought I’d leave some. I will continue to use it because, as I said, I just need a tea timer app to do that ONE thing. Which it does.
