Over 6 years and 2 iPads
Textastic was one the first apps I bought in 2020 for my shiny new iPad and it was a first install for M5 iPadPro. It is my go to editor for all things text.
Builtin SFTP is a godsend
Initially I preferred another editor because I felt Textastic’s big title bar was a downside. However, after putting these editors into practice I’ve come to realize how irritating MacOS’s “Safe Save” is and how it changes my file permissions to 600, regardless what workarounds I’ve tried. Textastic’s SFTP is really intuitive and unintrusive and was very easy to start using in my workflow. This way I can keep using the iPad as a “thin client” for my Mac. It’s really great. The built-in terminal is a nice touch for quick commands but I’ve found that it’s not good for long running commands since it seems like it can time out and you can lose your session (I guess you could tmux). But I use another product I prefer for that anyway.

My favorite editor!
I've tried all the code editors for iPad, and Textastic is definitely the best.
I use the app to update my website from my iPad Pro. With web preview and SFTP built in, it's almost easier than working on my MacBook.

Misleading
Downloaded the app thinking it was free, but you have to pay to use the app, you can’t create or edit files without paying :( sadly misleading
Purchased years ago before subscription
Unless I am doing something wrong, simple editing does not work without subscription.
I don’t need any application bad enough to have monthly subscriptions.

The free version is only a placeholder. It cannot even read text files, let alone edit. Label it honestly with the $19.99 price tag.

So… to use even the most basic feature of a TEXT EDITOR I have to pay. I don’t think so. I will continue using Runestone as it’s generous on the free tier and really good on premium plan.
Great app, but paywalled
Super useful app with some great features. Everything is locked behind a paywall though, even basic features like viewing. So be prepared to shell out a few bucks.
Super App und super Service
Eine super App und ich habe auch die ProVersion gekauft. Der Service ist hervorragend. Ich hatte das Problem bei der Nutzung einer externen USB Tastatur, dass die unterste Zeile durch eine weiße Zeile und die Tastenkürzel überdeckt ist und so der geschiebene Text nicht mehr sichtbar ist. Das Problem ist eine Einstellung im Iphone, das auch bei anderen Apps in Auswahllisten auftritt. Durch den Tipp des Entwicklers, die Einstellung zu ändern, war das Problem gelöst. Einstellungen -> Bedienungshilfen -> Anzeige & Textgröße -> Transparenz reduzieren ausschalten
