Seems like an amazing app… but paywall

This seems like an amazing app based on everything I've seen, but everything is locked behind a paywall. Including viewing, creating, and editing code files, which is literally the purpose of a code editor.
I wish the pro subscription were less of a necessity and more of an optional upgrade for advanced features. Granted, it's only $20 a year, but it's still something to be aware of before downloading.

It’s getting worst with every update

Last update is the worst ever. Now, just trying to open a file is prone to crash, corrupting files.
Stay away from this.

Response from developer

I'm sorry you're experiencing crashes when opening files. I'm not currently aware of an issue in the latest version that would cause this. Please tap the (?) button in the bottom toolbar and choose Email Support, or email support@textasticapp.com directly, with any details that could help me reproduce the problem. If possible, include a sample file that causes the crash. I'd very much like to investigate and fix this.

Merece 7 🌟

Infelizmente o iOS não permite :-)

Thank you!

Paywall Clickbait

There is no point in the free version other than to show you what you could have if you subscribe. It can’t even open files, so it’s very underhand to offer it free in the App Store…. Clickbait at best. Koder is much better for the free functionality.

Essential for Web Development on iPad

The best text-editor for web development I have used on iPad! It’s got a great interface, is easy to use, and lets me comfortably work on websites on my iPad.

Perfect

The app is perfect, but I strongly recommend adding one more feature in Search icon, I need another search icon that allow me to enter the line number to move to the specific line. AI tells “edit line#333 and it’s sometimes difficult to find this specific line manually

Herşey paralı 💶

Uygulamayı açar açmaz ücret istemesi hoşuma gitmedi. Önce deneme imkanı sunulmalıydı. Ben bunun yerine TrueCode kullanmayı tercih ediyorum.

Bad

Every thing needs to pay! !

Response from developer

Textastic offers a 7-day free trial when starting a monthly or yearly subscription, so you can explore all features before deciding to buy. No payment is charged if you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. If you prefer not to subscribe, a one-time purchase option is also available. Offering a free download with in-app purchases is the only way to provide a free trial through the App Store.

It doesn’t open files without subscription

This is completely paid app, it does not provide even basic functions without subscription.

Paid

Just make it paid. Does nothing for free.

Just make the app paid access at this point, or advertise it as a paid experience.

You literally cannot do anything until you purchase the subscription. No free features whatsoever, not even viewing or editing files.

Interruptions

The app should not interrupt me with a request to read it while I’m trying to use it

Not Free

There is no free version of this app without a subscription fee. Meanwhile Notepad++ and VS Code, both completely outperform this app, are free. There is no reason to charge for this.

Over 6 years and 2 iPads

Textastic was one the first apps I bought in 2020 for my shiny new iPad and it was a first install for M5 iPadPro. It is my go to editor for all things text.

Builtin SFTP is a godsend

Initially I preferred another editor because I felt Textastic’s big title bar was a downside. However, after putting these editors into practice I’ve come to realize how irritating MacOS’s “Safe Save” is and how it changes my file permissions to 600, regardless what workarounds I’ve tried. Textastic’s SFTP is really intuitive and unintrusive and was very easy to start using in my workflow. This way I can keep using the iPad as a “thin client” for my Mac. It’s really great. The built-in terminal is a nice touch for quick commands but I’ve found that it’s not good for long running commands since it seems like it can time out and you can lose your session (I guess you could tmux). But I use another product I prefer for that anyway.

My favorite editor!

I've tried all the code editors for iPad, and Textastic is definitely the best.

I use the app to update my website from my iPad Pro. With web preview and SFTP built in, it's almost easier than working on my MacBook.

Keep up the great work!
