My favorite app ever

This is the best app out there. Unbeatably useful. I keep all my notes in plain text and this app lets me edit, search, and sync them. This is the one app I can't live without and I use it many times a day, every day. A sincere thank you to the amazing dev. This app is so useful that if it didn't exist, I'd have to write it.

A huge part of my daily work flow

I have been using this app for a long time on three devices. After all these years, it is still the fastest app for text files on dropbox.

One big bug, I wish the devs could fix: on my iPad when I switch the app to the background, and then bring it back to the foreground, the OPEN button disappears, so I cannot close the file or open a new file without restarting the app.

I have to say, though, I have never found another iOS app that replaces this one for me for editing and manipulating text files on dropbox. I am very grateful for it every day.

Cannot open my Dropbox file

I was able to get to the folder where my dropbox file is located, but the individual files did not list in the folder, and I cannot open them up. Please help me otherwise, this is a worthless app.

Warning

Only for Dropbox!!!!!

Very useful. I use it every day for years

However, there are some bugs:
1. “Recents” tab in files menu is broken. 5 from 10 tomes when I chose some file - it opens some other
2. It crashes in split screen multi app mode when I open file at my Ipad air 4th
3. I have many very long files. I need a button or a gesture that automatically takes me to the end of file, because scrolling takes years, and I need to do it every day

Fantastic App

I’ve been using this app for years. Fast, efficient, practical. I’m not sure I have any app I use more. I’ve written everything from shopping lists to a novel on the app without a single glitch. Five stars!

A huge part of my daily work flow

I have been using this app for a long time on three devices.

After all these years, it is still the fastest app for text files on dropbox.

I was especially pleased when the app developers updated the iPhone version, so that there is a “close” and “done” button that puts the current file away, preventing duplicate file errors. Unfortunately, the iPad version still creates these errors, so I have to remember to open a file I don’t care about before I close the app. This work-around works fine.

I will update my review to five stars when the iPad version is updated to include the DONE and CLOSE buttons.

However I have to say, I have never found another app that replaces this one for me for editing and manipulating text files on dropbox. I am very grateful for this app every day.

Heaven sent

This is my favorite iPhone text editor, and as combined with the dropbox cloud connection it is a dream. It does detect changes to the original file and auto updates the file you are looking at live like other text programs for other clouds (Apple Notes and Google Docs). It saves your working file as well promptly on the background continuously as you edit. It efficiently warns you if what you are looking at has been change elsewhere, as has happened to me when a program on my pc has auto updated text on the file while I am editing on my iPhone.

[Personally, one reason I like to rely on the Dropbox cloud is the simple way I can use Windows programs to write to AND read from the cloud files.]

No problem using TextForce simultaneously with the computer. You can choose on the iPhone to keep your edits, which TextForce neatly handles by modifying the name of the file you have locally on TextForce to make an additional file version.
I wish TextForce was available for Android devices. TextForce is unlike the Android dropbox text editor that only transmits changes when the file is being closed and a save prompt is (hopefully then you press the save button) presented.
Functionally is much better than the meager iPhone Notes. As easy to work with as the excellent google docs but using the dropbox cloud.

Lost files?!

When I updated to the latest version of textforce I lost access to many of my dropbox text files on both my iPhone 6+ and my iPad Pro. I can see these files and their contents on my laptop and with the Dropbox text editor; they are listed as files on textforce--but when I select them they appear as empty with 0 bytes. Can I go back to a previous version, or is there a fix? I've used and loved Textforce for over a year, but now i'm very frustrated with this update.

Perfect useful simple text editor for Dropbox files

Best replacement for SimpleText, which is no longer supported.

Wonderful App

Happy for the latest bug fix, simple and fast, Textforce is ideal for my needs.

glad for the update!

Updated Review 2016-11-29: Noticed an update to bring it current to iOS 10. Awesome!!! One of my key apps that I use. (I had started to receive Apple pop-up warnings about using the app.) The app works and is solid for what I need. Thank you for the update!

Original Review 2016-08-24: I've been using this app for years to edit text files in Dropbox. It works and is solid at this. Yea, there could be a few improvements especially since last update was back in 2014. Makes me wonder when something will "break." But, all in all, one of my key apps. Thanks!

can't open most of my txt file

So I have lots of txt file saved on Dropbox, this app succeed open two of them, the other is blank when I open them. Must be a problem with Unicode.

good but missing core function...

BACKGROUND
When I'm browsing my files in the Dropbox app I may suddenly have a need to make a note. Dropbox can't do it, which is why I need an app like this.
Let's assume I already have a txt file in Dropbox, and I just want to edit it.

PROBLEM
I'll just select "open in" and then choose your app, and it will take me directly to that file in your app and I'm editing in no time, right?!
Wrong.
Your app isn't even listed in "activities" as an option. And if it were, it would probably merely just open the app instead of the file itself. That is to say, I'll have to navigate to the file for the 2nd time.

I've gone through many apps to find a solution. Others do show up in the "activities" / "open in" list (PlainText, for example), but do not open the file - just the app.
Microsoft Word and Excel do open the file directly, so I know it's possible. But Word won't open a txt file...

SOLUTION
Use word docs instead of txt files? Ew.

Allows universal documents

I was using workflowy for the past year to keep notes at the ready during Bible study and to be able to reference or add things to research on the Sabbath, but started looking for an alternative that would not cost $4.95 a month. Since I use Dropbox across several computers and .txt is the ultimate universal file format, this app completes the process and it saves me $60 a year along with allowing for more formatting options. The search and replace function WITH Reg Exp is priceless!!!

perfect text search

there are so many text editor apps. This syncs dropbox and text file search function is easy and works great.

Ugh, Frustrated

1. No search function in the app so if you actually make use of 100gb of drop box space (paid version), expect to be doing a log of browsing for the file you’re looking for

2. No 'open with' from within the drop box app itself, Drop box does have a very powerful search function, but you can’t open your text file using the 'open with' facility built into dropbox

3. Support? Yeah uh no! No link or information here on iTunes, go ahead and do a google search for Yutaka Yagiura, And you won’t find a web page dedicated to their line of products so you can’t ask a question or suggest a feature let alone report a bug.

4. The one thing that is a plus with this app is that when you do find your file and edit it, it save directly back up to drop box and you don’t have to click through 5 different steps to get that to happen like other apps.

so all in all it’s pretty frustrating trying to find an app that will fit your purpose on iTunes any more, searching for a text editor that will search for a text file, open it, allow you to edit it and save it back to dropbox has been a two hour ordeal and about $15 spent on wasted apps with no satisfying result. Not fun

Works as expected. Flawlessly syncs.

Effortless syncing with Dropbox. Easy to use. I gave it 4 stars because I wish it could print.

good minimalist editor with power under the hood

I needed a new editor for my Dropbox text files after PlainText stopped syncing correctly for me. Took a chance on this app and I actually prefer it now; the interface is rougher, but it has a lot of smart, intuitive features. Definitely worth my $3.

Simple and Great!

Some of the plain text editors for iOS don't allow access to your entire Dropbox folder, but this one does. This is important to me because I have a lot of pre-existing notes as .txt files in my Dropbox.
