About

basic is a priority-mode street camera on one capture screen. There are no menus, no hidden menus, no settings page, no gear, and no preferences screen. The viewfinder is the app. Live in shutter priority when the street moves fast; flip to aperture priority when a face needs to separate from the crowd. S: STREET (SHUTTER PRIORITY) Manual shutter and ISO with a DSLR-style light meter. The horizontal dial is the law. JPEG output with your chosen look baked in: Neutral, Mono, or Faded. Rear SMALL (~12MP virtual) or LARGE (max JPEG per physical lens). A: PORTRAIT (APERTURE PRIORITY) One tap to f/1.4. Close subjects pull away from the background; far scenes keep a mild even cream across the frame. JPEG with depth metadata you can re-edit in Photos when the save includes it. ONE SCREEN, GESTURES NOT MENUS Everything lives on the portrait capture canvas or a direct gesture: gallery thumb, look label, lens pill, pill shutter. Swipe for looks. Tap to focus. Long-press for AE/AF lock. Two-finger manual focus with zone lock. Press-and-hold the thumbnail to peek the last frame. No hamburger, no overflow, no buried configuration layer. HARDWARE CONTROLS Volume shutter, supported hardware half-press and dial controls (mirror shutter in S / ±EV in A), optional action-control look switching, and system quick-launch into the viewfinder on supported hardware. JPEG ONLY JPEG capture only. No RAW capture formats. One JPEG file per shutter press. Up to eight in-flight captures. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No account. No analytics or tracking SDKs. No cloud processing. Photographs stay on your device until you save to Photos. PERMISSIONS • Camera: required for the viewfinder and capture. • Photos: add when saving; may read when opening a recent capture stored in your library. • Location: optional; embedded in EXIF only when you grant access. YOUR DATA & DELETION • Delete individual captures from the Recent list (open the gallery thumb on the capture screen). • At the bottom of that same Recent list: Erase all basic data removes capture index and preferences on this device (with confirmation). Photos already in your library must be deleted separately in Photos. SUPPORTED HARDWARE • Full experience (Pro-class multi-camera devices): all rear focal lengths the hardware exposes. • Standard multi-camera devices: ultra-wide and wide only, with an in-finder notice. • Other supported devices: wide lens only, with an in-finder notice. • Simulator: UI only; cannot capture photographs. LEGAL & SUPPORT Privacy Policy: https://thebasic.camera/privacy Support: https://thebasic.camera/support In-app: open the gallery thumb (Recent list). Privacy Policy, Support, and Erase all basic data sit at the bottom of that list. Not behind a settings menu. basic is published by SixTwelve Studio as the basic camera. Portrait orientation. Requires iOS 18 or later. Paid once: no subscription, no in-app purchases.
