The Best Celiac App

My daughter was diagnosed with celiac in November 2024 and this app has really helped put my mind at ease. It’s easy to use and truly helps you learn how to correctly read labels on products. If something isn’t listed you can always ask Celia or send in a question. I find myself constantly referring back to it and it’s worth every penny in my opinion. I also love the updated articles as well as the list of candies that are safe during holidays. Prior to this I had tried the FIG app and I was so overwhelmed and confused on what was “actually safe” that I switched to the celiac app and I’m never going back.

I’m so tired of the gluten tax

I already have to pay way more for my food… now you want me to pay to use what should be a resource. Not going to happen.

I love this app!

Even though I don’t have celiac disease myself, I’ve seen how challenging it can be for people who do—and The Celiac App is honestly such a great resource. It’s packed with helpful, easy-to-understand info about living gluten-free, and it takes so much of the guesswork out of things like grocery shopping and eating out.

One of the most useful parts is the dining section—it gives clear advice on how to navigate restaurant menus, plus tips for talking to staff about gluten-free needs. There are even dining cards in different languages, which is amazing if you’re traveling.

Whether you’re newly diagnosed or just looking for reliable gluten-free tools, this app really makes things easier and less stressful. It’s a thoughtful, well-designed resource that I’d recommend to anyone navigating celiac disease or supporting someone who is.

Less overwhelm/more confidence

It’s abundantly clear that so much thought and care was put into this app. It takes the overwhelm out of eating GF!

SO much knowledge in an app

Erin is by far the most trusted dietitian I’ve known. Knowing she downloaded her brain into this app is a no brainer to me! Such great resources!

Makes life easy!

As someone who is gluten conscious - this app makes living a more “normal life” so much easier!

So Helpful

This app is on my home screen! Such a great tool for eating out and keeping my son safe. Thank you.

Great tool

This app is fantastic for anyone who is newly diagnosed with celiac disease. It breaks things down in a very easy manner and cover so much information. I highly recommend this app.

One bit of advice, check with your flex spending account manager to see if you can get the cost of the subscription covered under your flexible spending account. Some FSA account managers will allow medical based apps to be covered under flex spending if you have a note from your doctor.

APP DOES NOT WORK!

The APP DOES NOT WORK! I have Downloaded it 3 times… It will NOT allow me to subscribe to 1 of the monthly subscription programs.. It will NOT show me ALL of the lists to look over! SUPPOSEDLY offers a free trial + subscription options BUT NEITHER 1 WORKS! I was going to suggest & recommend the app to friends & family members BUT I NO LONGER WILL BE!

Not user friendly

Very difficult to navigate. Signed up and already want to cancel. Very difficult to cancel. I think it is a scam.

Charged but can’t get in

I have a paid membership and passwords don’t work. I reset says no account, although email to reset comes to my email address. Very upset. Requesting refund

If you don’t pay you get nothing

Honestly was hoping to have an app that could help me. Especially for the medication and groceries side of things since I don’t go to the restaurant often and they only do restaurants in the U.S. anyway.

Being gluten free is already so expensive and as a college student I don’t have the money to afford a subscription. All I have access to is knowing what at California kitchen and Cava is gluten free or how to asks restaurants if the food is gluten free. If you don’t pay you only get the coeliac card in English for restaurants (thanks but I mostly need it for travelling in countries that don’t understand English well) And unless the only food you need to buy are cough drops, candies, bars, beer or baking supplies you need to pay for the rest.
Although I will admit the form to email to hotels to ask them about gluten free options is helpful but you can’t acces the transport or planning option in the travel section.

They say you won’t need to use google anymore but put 85% of the information is locked behind a pay wall ( 27 free options out of 170)

Maybe my expectations for this app were too high but I’m honestly disappointed. All this information can be found on google for free. I wad just happy to find all this free information in one place for easy access but i have to pay 80$ a year or 10$ a month for it. Over all not worth it and very disappointed.

Don’t get it.

This app automatically signed me up for premium and started charging me 6.99 a month. Garbage

Caution advised for restaurant information

The app's major shortcoming lies in its approach to recommending restaurants for people with celiac disease. Including fast-food chains like Chipotle, Wendy's, and Five Guys is misleading and, frankly, an insult to those who require stringent gluten-free environments. These establishments, while popular, are notorious for their high risk of cross contamination, which can have severe health consequences for individuals with celiac disease.

Cross contamination is not a minor issue; it's a matter of serious health concern. The casual manner in which this app addresses it is alarming. The recommendations seem to disregard the fundamental needs of its target audience, thereby providing dangerously inaccurate information. They should be educated as to why they should be avoided, and all the things that can and do go wrong trying to order fast food as a celiac at these establishments.

I had hoped this app would be a beacon of support, guiding users to safe dining experiences. Instead, it feels like a misguided attempt that trivializes the seriousness of celiac disease. It's imperative for the developers to understand that when it comes to health, accuracy and safety cannot be compromised. Revising the restaurant recommendations to include truly gluten-free establishments is crucial. Instead of promoting fast food places you should be exposing the false hope they give to new celiacs trying to navigate their disease. Asking restaurant employees for a gluten free bun or just changing their gloves does not make you safe.

In its current form, I cannot recommend this app to others in the celiac community. I urge the developers to take this feedback seriously and make significant changes. Accurate information and safe dining options are not just preferences; they are necessities. Five Guys, Wendy’s, and Chipotle, amongst many others come with severe risks and promoting them in any way other than that is a danger to the community.

Response from developer

We appreciate feedback and are committed to keeping everyone safe. Our goal is to empower users with the knowledge and tools to make safe & informed decisions when dining out. While I understand your concerns about cross-contact, we also believe in providing guidance on how to navigate these situations. There is no restaurant, regardless of its dedication to gluten-free options, that can guarantee 100% safety. Our approach is to educate people on the questions to ask and the precautions to take. Living with celiac disease shouldn't mean living in a bubble. It's about understanding the risks and being able to navigate them in a safe, educated manner.
