App leaves much to be desired

Home screen loading is incredibly slow and is the main issue. Content organization could be improved.

TH needs to wake up to the fact that consumption of news, even from reputed broadsheets, is going to be through the app.

Due to the poor app performance, I have had to also subscribe to the print version of the paper. While this may seem like extra business, it is annoying and will lead to attrition of customers over time.

Very good content, hampered by UX problems

The Hindu does a very good job of reportage. I think they also have reasonably measured editorial content. However, from a UX perspective, there are a lot issues mostly around premium content needing additional authentication, a lack of scaling based on screen size, and upselling subscriptions to paying users.

Family and friends subscription has no profile feature

In family and friends subscription, we can share one account with 2 extra people. But there is no “profile” feature for each person. This means, if one had read an article, the other person will also see that article as read. Hence, kindly provide “profile” feature.

Is it truly The Hindu

The Hindu news paper some decades ago was known for quality reporting and used to be a North Star for every reader to gain knowledge as well as proficiency in the language.
The Hindu now seems for anyone who is not a Hindu. The stance in reporting is biased to destroy the fabric of Hinduism that defines the Bharat. Invaders and barbarians who looted Bharat are glorified and the Bharatiyata is intentionally ignored in articles, opinions and editorials.

App issues

Constantly crashing…

Unreadable

Every time I open The Hindu app on my iPad I wonder what went down the thought process of the webpage designers, and the Management Team themselves who approved the design. Did they think it was cute, that a small window lends itself to great reading? A completely ridiculous design in my opinion. This is the very reason I hardly open the App and regret being a subscriber. I am done and will not have regrets not coming back.

Home page does not load

people thinking of buying a subscription beware: basic things like a working homepage can’t be expected of this shoddy app

Excellent.

Excellent. Keep it up.

India’s Best National Newspaper

I have been reading Hindu since my childhood days especially at my grandmother house where all the elders used to live and they used to have Hindu paper as their daily reading and I was cross checked for my English reading abilities by reading Hindu news paper and I used to love buying Hindu news paper at Madras central railway station and read deeply through my travels from Chennai to Nellore regularly. I used to feel very proud carrying Hindu newspaper in my hand.

Not objective

There is sadly a very palpable left bias.

Stupidest app for the best paper

This is easily the stupidest app one can use of all apps experienced in the past ten years. It is a surprise the principals take no note.

Recently I kept reading but no update or notification came saying fresh subscription is due. Interestingly as a good measure they also destroyed my login credentials. So if one clicks Account tab, instead of showing any detail such as date of expiry of subscription etc one only stares at a blank tab — for a whole minute at least. It is most prudent and advisable to not subscribe till this app regressor ( not developer) is chucked out by the Group.

Please do not write ifiotic responses “let us know your soecific probkems “ etc. These are already detsiled. _You_ are the problem.

Astonishing turnaround!

The Hindu and its sister publications are not new to me. When G. Kasturi and GK Reddy were alive it was the best English language newspaper in India. The Frontline was started when I was in school and I still remember a write up on the great Ilaiyaraja and singer Chitra. I grew up reading GK Reddy and my knowledge in various matters could largely be attributed to the newspaper. However, after the advent of certain communists and atheists in Tamil Nadu along with the rise of N. Ram, the quality of the group’s publications took a huge nosedive right down to the Mariana’s Trench. Mindless criticism of the democratically elected right wing government for even the right things and praising the dynastic political parties lead by scam tainted people seem to be the order of the day. However, due to the affection I had for The Hindu, I subscribed to the Frontline magazine but, I was very soon disillusioned with it. The same mindless criticism and no journalism at all. Most of the stories are based on conjectures by persons with bad reputation and those who lacked original thinking. Thought of unsubscribing it but, a friend told me that The Hindu, has really turned around and I would certainly like it. Indeed it is! It’s perfectly designed app with journalism par excellence and as it is reporting is a treat to the eyes and mind. This is exactly what every reader wanted. He/she doesn’t care who is at helm and what he is. It’s pure journalism and effective reporting GK Reddy style. Keep it up The Hindu. Start working on The Frontline and The Sportstar in the same way.

Don’t download as It’s paid one don’t think it’s free.

It’s always shows headlines and shows adds, if you want read more abt story scroll down its shows pop up to subscribe, so better before download think you want pay and enjoy news download otherwise waste of time , and Apple acct it’s a separate headache to pay extra. It’s a bank of adds do nothing is free in App Store otherwise adds will come by its own you have to wait until they complete. Better think before buying Apple products . Know the conditions

Issues with the app

I am writing this out of complete frustration with my digital subscription to The Hindu. I have already raised this several times with Product support with no resolution in sight. I am not able to view any of the subscriber articles in spite of having a valid subscription till Dec 25. It has been months that this issue is ongoing. There are no escalations contacts available for these issues. This is a complete denial of service for someone who has paid for the full year.

App is broken and no one replies – very frustrating

The Hindu app is not working at all. The home screen stays blank — just a grey screen, no articles or content ever load. I already emailed customer service with a screenshot several days ago, but I haven’t received any reply. This is unacceptable for a paid subscription. If nothing changes soon, I will cancel my subscription. Very disappointing and incredibly frustrating experience.

Poor iPad experience

I’ve paid for the premium subscription because I value the content — it’s some of the best journalism out there. But the iPad app experience is surprisingly poor. It opens in a small iPhone-style window, and there’s no proper iPad optimization or full-screen support.

As a paying user, this feels disappointing. On a large iPad, I expect a smooth, immersive reading experience — not a stretched-out phone app. Please prioritize a proper iPadOS update that supports full screen, landscape mode, and modern multitasking.

Hope this is addressed in an upcoming update.

About subscription

It keeps asking us to subscribe to Hindu while we’re reading, and when we scroll up, it always ask us to subscribe to the monthly channel and yearly channel with an amount of ₹3000 per month, it keeps getting irritated while we are reading the stuff and if the subscription don’t pop up every time, I read the article, then it’s not a big deal, but it keeps popping up on my page and it gives me a lot of trouble to always click the button and read the matter again
